About the team
The Legal, Probity & Internal Audit & General Counsel Team supports the delivery and operation of Sydney Metro. Our team sets the overarching governance and strategic framework to ensure we’re going in the right direction. We also work closely with Transport for NSW, Infrastructure NSW and NSW Government Ministers and Cabinet to ensure Sydney Metro connects seamlessly with our total integrated, multi-modal future transport system.
The opportunity
We have a senior management opportunity within our Legal, Probity and Internal Audit and General Counsel Team to play a key role heading up our Internal Audit function at Sydney Metro.
Reporting to the Director Internal Audit & Corruption Prevention, your primary purpose is to lead the Internal Audit function and team in its delivery and implementation of the internal audit program of independent assurance across a wide variety of assurance activities including finance and investment. This is a broad leadership role with reach across all Sydney Metro operations and projects.
Your focus will be managing the Internal Audit team, ensuring that they have a clear sense of direction and are mentored, inspired, and supported in their goals and careers. You will also have regular exposure to Senior Management, the Audit and Risk Committee and the Board. You will lead a team of four and be the subject matter expert and business partner. You will also work closely with the Director to assist with regular Board, Committee and Management reporting and escalations.

About you
To succeed in this role, you will be a senior level professional that possesses proven audit and assurance experience and working knowledge (plus qualifications in a relevant discipline such as audit, finance and/or risk management), having worked in the private or public sector previously. Being a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors or equivalent will be beneficial.
You have solid team leadership experience, as well as the ability to develop strong business relationships where you are able to present, engage and influence to achieve the best outcomes using your specialist knowledge, interpersonal and leadership skills. With strong communication skills, both written and verbal, you take a proactive and resilient approach to dealing with challenging, complex and sensitive situations.
You’re a natural leader that operates with integrity and is comfortable working with personnel at all levels, including senior management, boards and committees. You relish and enjoy developing a team - empowering them to succeed across a matrix structured organisation.
