THE ROLE
We are seeking a dynamic Senior Project Manager who has extensive experience developing IT Project Investments proposals in support of business capability areas across the University. This role is part of a team that is responsible for supporting and collaborating with business stakeholders to interpret their technology requirements and determine innovative solutions supporting the Digital Transformation Strategy. We work directly with IT strategy and architecture, operations and project delivery teams to ensure our technology assets and investments are aligned with the University’s strategic objectives and plans.
The University is embarking on an ambitious digital transformation journey, and this is a rare opportunity to be responsible for identifying opportunities and converting ideation to investment proposals.
This role is responsible for defining the IT investment proposals and managing the IT pipeline portfolio. They will lead the engagement with University’s faculties and business units and work to develop their business capability models and maturity objectives, defining strategic roadmaps for supporting application portfolios, and identifying applicable information and data standards.
About You
You will be a highly experienced Senior Project Manager specialising in the higher education sector, having worked either in-house or as a seasoned consultant to one or more local universities (in Australia). Your specific experience will have included major digital transformation programs in complex heterogenous environments. You will be knowledgeable of contemporary themes and issues in higher education – from customer, organisation, and technology perspectives.
You will have experience undertaking strategic planning in consultation with the business, and have well-developed skills in defining and communicating targets. You will have highly developed project management and process improvement skills, including experience in a variety of methodologies to evaluate business issues and develop requirements for technological change to administrative functions in order to deliver quality, on time and on budget. You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong stakeholder management, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with colleagues, technical, and business stakeholders at multiple levels in the organisation, including with executive stakeholders. You will have strong commercial awareness and extensive experience with IT sourcing and supplier management, and a solid understanding of the value levers across service strategy, design, transition, and operations.
You will be a self-starter and enjoy working in a dynamic environment as a team player, are motivated by the outcomes and challenges of owning and driving the sustainability and success of a highly critical portfolio, with a methodical and consultative approach in your work.

  • Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience with demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Demonstrated experience influencing and building strong relationships and managing diverse stakeholder expectations and competing interests to position the IT function as a strategic partner and enabler of reform within a complex business environment
  • Demonstrated broad business understanding, and deep insight and knowledge of business context and process, with either business acumen with technical exposure; or technical acumen with business exposure in a range of IT domains that have delivered enterprise capabilities to support the strategic requirements of the business and driven substantial improvements in business performance
  • Creating investment proposals and business cases that clearly articulate complex, technical information to a broad range of non-technical audiences and proven track record in navigating a complex business environment to achieve results
  • Excellent engagement, communication, influencing and negotiation skills, including the ability to produce written information and presentations for a range of audiences and to effectively manage and influence stakeholder with competing interests
  • Highly developed project management and process improvement skills, including experience in a variety of methodologies to evaluate business issues and develop requirements for technological change to administrative functions in order to deliver quality, on time and on budget.
