As Australia’s only specialist eye, ear, nose and throat hospital, the Eye and Ear has been providing care for the senses for 150 years. The Eye and Ear has almost 60 different outpatient clinics for the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of vision and hearing loss and provides a 24-hour emergency eye and ear, nose and throat service. Every year the Eye and Ear cares for over 220,000 patients, with over 160,000 outpatients, nearly 44,000 emergency patients and over 17,000 inpatients. The hospital is currently undergoing a major redevelopment to create a modern internal structure and to improve access for patients, visitors and staff.

About the Role
Senior Pharmacist, Grade 3 - annual salary band $104-119k
Full time fixed Term position to 8 January 2024 (40 hours/week with rostered day off) and tax effective salary packaging East Melbourne location, short walk to the CBD
The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital has a fixed term full time position available (due to parental leave) in our friendly pharmacy team for a Grade 3 Senior Pharmacist to oversee clinical services and operations for our specialist hospital. This position offers an excellent opportunity to further develop clinical, organisational and people skills in a niche specialist public hospital setting. The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear hospital is about to complete a major redevelopment which includes a brand new pharmacy department.
This position reports to the Director of Pharmacy and is responsible for ensuring that clinical pharmacy services and operations are effective, efficient, patient-centred and meet legislative, hospital policy and best practice requirements. Involved in clinical pharmacist team meetings and representing the Pharmacy department at committee meetings, the Senior Pharmacist also participates in the on-call pharmacy roster.
Our clinical pharmacy service encompasses a ward, specialist clinic and ED based pharmacy service, medication reconciliation service, training & development, medication safety, antimicrobial stewardship, drug usage evaluation and quality use of medicines. Responsible for service planning and design, particularly for our Emergency department and weekend services, rostering, recruitment, training and onboarding, this is an excellent leadership opportunity in a niche specialist hospital.
We are looking for someone to join our friendly team in making a difference to the lives of thousands of our patients and their loved ones who has:
Registration as a pharmacist with the Pharmacy Board of Australia (no restrictions)
Previous experience working as a pharmacist in a hospital pharmacy setting
Proficient in medicines information retrieval to support clinical practice and medicines evaluation
Leadership, negotiation and decision making skills and excellent organisational and communication skills
A commitment to continuous quality improvement, patient-centred care and professional practice
An interest in the specialist fields of ophthalmology and audiology
Prior SHPA ClinCAT evaluator training and familiarity with Merlin® pharmacy software and CERNER® medication management software is highly desirable but not essential.
