About Us:
The Department of Justice and Community Safety has established a new business unit, Liquor Control Victoria, to support the independent Victorian Liquor Commission. Liquor Control Victoria supports the independent Commission by providing strategic, operational and administrative support and by performing various regulatory functions under delegation.
The Victorian Liquor Commission, supported by the Liquor Control Victoria, is responsible for issuing liquor licences and overseeing industry compliance and enforcement to ensure that Victorians and visitors to the state enjoy safe and responsible liquor licenced environments.
About the role
The Senior Policy and Regulatory Strategy Officer contributes to developing policy and evolving the organisation's regulatory practice by engaging with internal and external stakeholders, including co-regulators, government and the community. The position also maintains effective environmental scanning, provides robust analysis of external drivers and emerging issues, and provides advice on options to enhance the way we regulate the liquor industry, include providing input into the review and development of legislation and other regulatory proposals.
The Policy and Regulatory Strategy team delivers:
Quality advice and support to assist the VLC in effectively fulfilling its regulatory obligations and improving the way the VLC regulates, in accordance with its legislative framework, regulatory approach and strategic priorities, and
Policy advice to enable other divisions to implement and, where appropriate, identify potential legislative and regulatory reforms, and liaises with other areas within DJCS to influence, provide input to, and implement reforms.

As an ideal candidate, you will possess:
Proven ability to quickly understand industry and community views, operational systems, organisational roles and functions and legislative and policy developments in the liquor industry.
Proven ability to develop, review and enhance policies, practices, and programs within a complex environment.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in analysing evidence and data sources and advising on business improvement options.
An appropriate tertiary qualification in law, public policy or other relevant discipline is desirable.
