About the Team
The Engineering & Maintenance Branch manages a $1.5 billion annual maintenance program on behalf of Sydney Trains and NSW Trains – delivering a safe, reliable passenger fleet and metropolitan rail network, to meet growing customer demand and keep Sydney moving.
The opportunity
Right now, we have an opportunity for a Senior Program Manager to join us in the Special Projects team to lead, implement and monitor a number of business-critical initiatives aimed at reducing risks for our staff and contractors.
Reporting to the Director Special Projects, the Senior Program Manager will lead multi-disciplined teams to drive programs and deliver outcomes that not only introduce new technologies and new ways of working but also support culture and behavioural change. Key to success in this role will be your ability to identify and engage with a wide range of stakeholders, identify and deliver contemporary risk controls, drive cultural change, be able to influence at all levels and be able to navigate machinery of government and safety assurance processes.
Key accountabilities will include:
- Direct, lead and manage a diverse suite of projects with full accountability for program and financial compliance, safety assurance outcomes and delivery of benefits
- Lead market sounding activities to ensure Sydney Trains has a pipeline of future initiatives which continue to deliver our ‘Safety at our Core’ values
- Direct, lead and manage the organisational and change management effort to ensure that program milestones are delivered on time, to budget, and deliver forecast benefits
- Collaborate across the organisation and wider industry to ensure that current best practice is identified, is funded, aligns to our strategic outcomes and forms part of our future pipeline of risk reduction initiatives
- Act as the project delivery SME for all aspects of the project lifecycle and provide support across the suite of risk reduction programs

About you
You will ideally hold tertiary qualifications in project management or safety assurance and have extensive experience in managing and delivering complex, multi-disciplinary projects and/or programs of work.
Collaboration, communication and transparency will be key to your success. You will have experience in identifying key stakeholders and growing authentic relationships through effective communication, win-win negotiation and partnering. This has allowed you to drive cultural and behavioural change whilst delivering positive business outcomes.
