Reporting to the ICT Contracts and Solutions Manager, the Solution Architect will work closely with business stakeholders, other Solution Architects, Project Managers, Business Analysts, and technical resources to deliver digital solutions to our client's program and ensure the digital technology, information and data align to the current and future needs of the program.
The primary objective of the Solution Architect is to deliver and drive the solution design and architecture of digital technology solutions to support the successful implementation of new and uplifts to existing solutions for the program.
The Solution Architect will ensure the alignment of information, data, process, applications, and technical architectures and assist in driving the technology strategy, aligning to the strategic direction of technology, data, information, and applications across the program and the broader organisation.
RESPONSIBILITIES and ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Work with business stakeholders, project managers, business analysts, technical resources, and vendors to understand needs and develop solution options, designs, and architectures to drive the implementation of digital solutions for the program.
- Lead the development of designs and architectures of simple to complex solutions ranging from bespoke to enterprise solutions, data platforms, integration, and business intelligence. Ensure consistency with agreed requirements, policies and standards and provide technical guidance and governance throughout the solution delivery lifecycle.
- Actively engage and support demand management and support business engagement by working with the functional areas of the program to assist in the creation and review of the programs systems capability requirements and roadmap to ensure technology and data strategy aligns to the future needs of the program across information, data, applications, and integration.
- Assist in the creation and maintenance of current- and target-state application, information, data, process architecture to ensure alignment to the programs business requirements.
- Assist in the creation and maintenance of program-wide logical data model identifying validated key master data and information flows.
- Collaborate with the programs functional areas to assist in the development of organisational policies, standards, and guidelines for information and records management.
- Lead, guide and contribute to requirements, business cases, procurement, market engagement, research, and vendor engagement.
- Develop and contribute to business capability models, value-streams maps, business process models, investment, and technology roadmaps.
- Contribute to processes that ensure data and information is operationalised and appropriately handed over to operations.
- Provide support to and contribute to continuous improvement of the current application, data, and technology landscape.
- Monitor the external environment to gather intelligence, assess impacts/opportunities and assist in the creation of technology roadmaps.
Internally:
- The Solution Architect will work closely with the broader ICT and Business Services Team, functional and delivery teams, to ensure solutions, information and data are aligned to business objectives.
- The position will maintain contact on an as required basis with partners, contractors and consultants involved in developing ICT solutions.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Seven+ (7) years of solution architectural experience, preferably at a senior level.
- 10 years+ of IT experience.
- Tertiary qualifications in business or IT.
- TOGAF Certification, Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert or equivalent.
- Knowledgeable about all phases of the software development life cycle and solution delivery for web, client-server, and cloud-based systems.
- Extensive experience in solution architecture, successfully designing and implementing complex business solutions and applications within a medium enterprise IT environment.
- Experience and expertise in application development and solution design, technical areas such as enterprise digital solutions, software development, integration, databases, information architecture and data flows.
- Experience in communicating solution designs and digital architecture across all levels of the organization and work with diverse project teams.
- Experience in design and implementation of solutions across on-premises, SaaS, PaaS, Hybrid and integration technologies.
- Experience in documenting current and future conceptual, logical, and integration designs in the application, data, and technology domains.
- Experience in aligning business, application, information, and data architectures.
- Experience in Microsoft Azure and the M365 ecosystem and other cloud technologies.
- Strong presentation skills with the ability to confidently present technical concepts in business language to senior executives and business stakeholders.
- Experience in risk identification and mitigation within an ICT project environment.
- Knowledgeable in current ICT cyber security practices and policies within the Australian Government framework.
- Experience in COTS (commercial off the shelve) procurement and implementation.
- Exposure to Enterprise Architecture.
- Experience in a wide range of technical areas such as solution architecture, application development, identity and access management, data platforms, web and mobile development, DevOps, networking, information lifecycle and security.
- Experience in software platforms, solutions, and the data structures of large capital construction programs and asset management.
- Experience in data governance tools to deliver data lineage, meta and master data.
- Experience in data and analytics architecture capabilities, principles, and policies.
- Familiarity with technology and architecture frameworks (e.g. TOGAF or others), BIM, Digital Engineering and Digital enablement for Construction and Asset Management.
