About the team:
The Infrastructure and Place division is in the process of delivering a once-in-a generation multi-billion dollar program of public infrastructure works which will ease congestion, improve safety, create new places and connect communities for generations to come. We are dedicated and passionate team that is proud of the work we do and the supportive and flexible team culture we have built.
The Systems Engineering and Integration unit within the Technical Services Branch provides specialised engineering services for the multi-modal delivery, operations and management of our Transport network. Working within a mature matrix structure, we are the centre of technical expertise driving innovation and best practice.
The opportunity:
Due to the unprecedented scale of investment in the Transport for NSW Future Transport strategy we have a range of opportunities for Senior Systems Assurance Engineers within the Infrastructure and Place Technical Service’s team.
Do you live to promote safety and assurance using evidence based thinking? Do you have experience applying Systems Assurance, Systems Safety, or Systems Engineering to support delivery of assets in complex operating environments? If you want to be a part of building NSW transport infrastructure and make your mark on flagship multi-modal transport projects such as Digital Systems Program, More Trains More Services, New Intercity Fleet, Transport Access Program, Parramatta Light Rail, and many more, we would love to meet you!.
These roles support projects in following Systems Assurance processes, thereby ensuring compliance with required functional and safety standards. This involves managing System Assurance deliverables through planning, requirements specifications, risk assessment, hazard analysis, submission and review of documentation, and improvement of system performance. These roles are technical in nature and you will act as an internal consultant, developing effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support programs and projects in the development and delivery of solutions that are safe to operate and maintain.
About you:
You will have tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Project Management or a suitably related discipline, or equivalent experience with proven capabilities in Systems Assurance.
Ideally you will have a background in the rail or road transportation sector and be well versed in safety engineering, systems engineering and/or technical assurance principles and tools. However, experience applying these principles in other safety and mission critical sectors (eg. defence, aerospace) will also be highly regarded.
Key Systems Assurance activities you will support include:
Providing advice and guidance to support projects in demonstrating compliance with relevant systems assurance processes, engineering standards and technical and user requirements during all phases of the project.
Performing systems assurance reviews for compliance with systems and safety engineering requirements, and demonstrating that the end product is safe.
Preparing assurance documentation including Assurance and Governance Plans (AGP), Systems Assurance Plans (SAP) and RAMS (Reliability, Accessibility, Maintainability and Safety) plans to ensure program and project compliance with engineering standards, specifications and legislative requirements and to assist in the identification of issues requiring resolution which may impact on individual projects or integration with the broader transport system in NSW.
Reviewing safety assurance reports, risk assessments and systems engineering reports and providing recommendations for improvement.
Ensuring that risk assessments, risk controls and verification of implementation of risk controls are documented and managed by the project throughout the project lifecycle to ensure any residual risks can be transitioned to the asset owner.
Contributing best practice data and information in order to continuously improve the Systems Assurance function.
Essential requirements
Appropriate tertiary qualifications or demonstrated relevant, equivalent professional experience
