  • Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $153,138 - $164,031 + super and leave loading
  • Exciting opportunity to join the Conservation and Restoration Science team
  • Location: Parramatta or key Science, Economics and Insights Division locations

The Koala Science program is a high priority, high profile and complex program of works nested under the broader NSW Koala Strategy. Koala science priorities are to design and drive the strategic delivery of projects for koalas for DCCEEW. Key priorities for the Koala Science team include leading the establishment of a baseline of distribution and abundance of Koalas across NSW; establishment of effective koala population monitoring  programs in an adaptive management framework; and review and delivery of the Koala Research Plan.

The successful applicate will be responsible for continual improvement of the Koala Science program to archive best practices, plans and policies. They will liaise with other Teams within DCCEEW and other Government Agencies.

About You

The position works with a team to design and deliver Environment, Energy and Science programs, to influence the strategic direction of priorities for Conservation and Restoration Science delivery, provide expert advice and influence decision making to achieve NSW Government priorities. 

A fundamental part of the role will be to lead and manage the development of project management methodologies and processes that improve productivity, encourage innovation, develop teamwork and enhance the delivery of science across the Environment, Energy and Science.

To be the successful applicate for this position you will require; 

  • High level experience in developing, leading and delivering applied conservation programs that meet organisational objectives and appropriate standards of rigour
  • Demonstrated abilities to contribute to strategic business planning for future programs to increase the resilience of our biodiversity to climate change and other threats
  • Proficient in developing and maintaining a range of collaborative internal and external relationships
  • Relevant scientific qualifications, demonstrated ability to lead complex scientific projects, strong project management experience, including budgets, allocation of resources, managing specialist services and reporting on results achieved.

Participation in the NSW Biodiversity Offsets Scheme (BOS) & BCT’s Private Land Conservation (PLC) Programs

All new employees with an existing defined interest in the BOS will be required to disclose their personal (or a close family member’s) participation to ensure potential conflicts are managed appropriately. In some circumstances this may require divestment of the interest.

The BCT also has restrictions on staff participation in its funded PLC programs. No additional funding, beyond that already agreed to by the BCT, may be sought or approved during time as a BCT employee or for a 12-month period following termination of employment.
