Information about the role

AFSA is seeking to appoint a key member of the executive leadership team that brings dynamic and inspiring leadership and experience in delivering modern and contemporary regulatory practices. You will be part of an executive leadership team that works collaboratively to enable a strong credit system for Australia.

About the role:
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, the General Manager, Regulatory Operations Group will be responsible for implementing key strategic priorities including the AFSA Regulatory Strategy. You will lead the operational divisions of the Agency and transition the Agency to modern approaches for service delivery and regulatory practices.

As General Manager, Regulatory Operations Group you will set and execute the regulatory strategy and approach for AFSA.

Key accountabilities:
Work effectively and collaboratively with AFSA’s Executive Committee members to provide strategic leadership of the agency
Provide inspiring and dynamic leadership as AFSA modernises its approach to service delivery and regulatory delivery activities, taking a data and evidence-based approach to regulation, and ensuring clients and customers receive exceptional service
Provide expert advice on AFSA’s approach to both service delivery and oversee system-wide supervisory and surveillance activities through planning, optimising service delivery approaches, and creating best-practice service delivery and regulatory goals, standards, and measures of success to ensure expectations are clear and that service delivery strategies are well aligned to overall Agency objectives
Lead and manage a diverse and geographically dispersed team during a time of agency transformation and drive a positive workplace culture by designing and delivering approaches to embed desired behaviours across the organisation
Evaluate and respond effectively to highly sensitive and contentious operational issues to ensure that financial, reputational, and business risks are minimised
Develop and maintain effective relationships, building networks with community, government, and industry stakeholders to enable performance benchmarking, monitoring of industry trends, and collaborating with peers on common responses to emerging and future issues
Represent the Agency in consultations and negotiations with key external stakeholders, including other government jurisdictions nationally and/or internationally, to optimise outcomes for the Agency and the Australian Government
Coordinate and participate in monitoring, review and auditing processes related to regulation and service delivery across the system
Promote the practice of quality service delivery that meets contractual requirements, legal obligations and organisational policy and procedures
Display, uphold and adhere to the APS Values, Code of Conduct, APS Employment Principles and AFSA’s Workplace Diversity Program
As an officer of the Commonwealth under the Workplace Health and Safety Act 2011, ensure the resources and systems of AFSA comply with relevant requirements. Acquire and keep an up-to-date knowledge of workplace health and safety matters
Engage with risk in a positive and transparent way in order to achieve the agency’s strategic objectives. Provide overall management of the agency’s strategic, financial, operational and governance risk. Ensure resources and systems comply with established strategy and relevant legislation

About you:
We are looking for a strong, dynamic, and resilient leader who will take responsibility and accountability for outcomes in a fast paced and challenging environment. You will have an excellent record of working collaboratively with other senior leaders across government and business to achieve outcomes and meet objectives.

A tertiary or post-graduate qualification relevant to the disciplines of public policy, business administration[?] or governance is highly desirable, as well as experience leading in a regulatory environment.
