Description

A Lecturer is expected to contribute to the teaching efforts of DHE. The incumbent is to contribute to the delivery of DHE’s programs. The position will assist DHE in maintaining learning and teaching excellence, as well as carry out administrative tasks related to teaching activities.

Role Overview

A Lecturer is responsible for providing a high-quality learning and teaching experience to students and for making ongoing contributions to the academic mission of DHE as appropriate at this level and type of position engagement.

Responsibilities and Duties

Specific responsibilities include the following:

  1. Teach undergraduate units which may include the production of teaching materials, conducting the following; tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, student consultations, marking and assessment activities;
  2. Prepare and deliver stimulating and varied learning and teaching experiences;
  3. Contribute to administration through collaboration with other staff, attending department and/or committee meetings, and other activities commensurate with this position engagement level.
  4. Support, ensure and maintain compliance with relevant legislation and DHE policies and procedures, including equity and health & safety and exhibit good practice in relation to same.
  5. Be a leading example of the principles and values embodied in the DHE’s Code of Conduct, and behave, act, and communicate at all times to reflect fairness, ethics and professionalism.
  6. Be aware of student support such as academic skills programs, counselling and disability services and liaise with these support services as required. 
  7. Actively engage in opportunities for continuous improvement.
  8. Provide inclusive learning environments that cater for student diversity.
  9. Undertake engagement activity within the discipline, profession or industry for the mutually beneficial development of shared goals, commitment, co-operation and two-way trust in a context of networking, partnership and reciprocity.
  10. Engagement to enhance the staff member’s own professional development.

Essential Criteria

  1. PhD in Accounting or higher degree in the relevant field (AQF level 9 or higher).
  2. Demonstrated ability to coordinate, prepare and deliver undergraduate programs, both classroom and online delivery, using a blended learning approach, with international content and an awareness of contemporary issues.
  3. Demonstrated capacity to work effectively and negotiate sensitively with students especially on issues related to effective learning.
  4. Demonstrated ability to produce good quality curricula or program materials is desirable.
  5. Demonstrated capacity to support student learning and coordinate teaching teams. 
  6. A collegial approach to teaching that indicates potential for collaborative team teaching.
  7. Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and effectively manage varying workloads and respond to changing priorities as required.
  8. Excellent interpersonal and high level written and verbal communication skills.
  9. Experienced in teaching and mentoring international students.

Decision Making

Decisions related to leading all elements of the academic programs offered by DHE, including the exercise of the relevant powers, responsibilities and delegations including:

  1. Academic student management including assisting student assessment groups, guiding student support and recommending study support materials.
  2. Academic judgement relating to assignment of marks, plagiarism, referencing and sourcing high quality content.
  3. Contribute to decisions regarding unit development and improvement.
  4. Monitoring organisational health and safety.
  5. Contribute to academic and operational matters.
