About the Role
Reporting through to the Superintendent, the Shift Supervisor plays a key role in providing leadership and guidance to terminal operators & train crew at the terminal, whilst also having an oversight on customers and assets within the terminal. This role will also be responsible for all terminal planning functions.
Assisting with the day-to-day operations of the terminal, the shift supervisor is to collaborate with internal & external stakeholders, to ensure operations run smoothly such as ensuring Pacific National trains run on time, safely and efficiently through consultation with Pacific National's Integrated Planning Services department and Network Control.
This role will have key emphasis on; ensuring safe working standards are met and improved where possible, providing positive customer interaction, people & change management and ensuring accurate planning across all areas.
Key responsibilities include:
- Inspiring and leading a team of safety-focused people by supervising, coordinating and managing operational resources within the Terminal
- Ensuring compliance with the relevant network access regulations and policy standards
- Planning of arriving & departing trains, shunt moves, terminal staff and load lifting for forklift operators
- Planning daily terminal layout and coordinating locomotive movements with Terminal Operators
- Preparing operational timetables for staff and management
- Responding to customer requests, delays, and issues
- Regular and consistent use of TMS and other relevant software
- Collaborating with Network Control for confirmation of Train scheduling and Network Requirements
- Upholding business Health & Safety standards
- Delivering Toolbox talks and safety information
To be successful in this role, you will have a strong planning and safety background and lead by example to improve safety in the workplace every day.
Other In addition, you will have:
- Proven experience in rail or other related industry with focus on operational planning
- Experience in leading, coaching, and motivating a team in a busy environment
- Proven strengths in problem solving and analytical ability
- Experience supervising teams and being able to hold them accountable
- Experience with on-the-spot thinking and problem solving
- Excellent communication and influencing skills with the ability to communicate at all levels to internal and external stakeholders
- Qualifications in Transport, Logistics or Business Management is advantageous
- Strong interpersonal skills
