In the role of Simulator Systems Manager, you will manage all technical support requirements for the simulator software and hardware, conducting preventative maintenance, fault diagnostics and assist suppliers with onsite support.
You will be responsible for developing, implementing and managing relevant strategies to ensure effective provision of simulator services and support activities to SmartShip Australia and its clients.
You will provide specialist advice to the Director & Principal Instructor (SmartShip Australia), Executive Director (Port Operations & Vessel Traffic Services) and the General Manager (MSQ) on issues and initiatives, and how they impact on the overall delivery of services to clients and industry partners.
Accountabilities include:
- Develop and maintain a system that records and periodically reports on all fault conditions or operational shortcomings that occur with the system.
- Develop and provide a desktop and network support service for all hardware and software utilised at the facility for management, administration and training purposes.
- Ensure the delivery of first line support and repairs to all software and Original Equipment Manufacturer hardware in consultation with the equipment and software supplier.
- Perform system acceptance testing and maintain records of all system upgrades and any corrective activities that occur.
- Ensure all supporting infrastructure is maintained and operational as required, in particular air conditioning, phone and security systems.
- Ensure ECDIS systems and other digital charts are maintained as required for simulation training.
- As required liaise with clients, configure and run training exercises, and facilitate debriefing.
- Manage modifications to exercise area models and ship models as required, including updating hydrographic, Aids to Navigation and other data.
- Supervise technical support staff in accordance with relevant department policies and procedures.
- Undertake the role in accordance with the requirements of s26(1) of the Public Service Act 2008 and at all times ensure that the principles as found in the Code of Conduct for the Queensland Public Service are upheld in the carrying out of all duties.
Desirable requirements:
- A Bachelor or Diploma in Computer Systems Engineering or Diploma in Electronics and Communications Engineering or acceptable equivalent from a recognised tertiary institution is mandatory.
