About the role:

The role of Social Worker Team Leader within the Division of Medical and Interventional Services at John Hunter Hospital is pivotal in ensuring the smooth operation of our Social Work Team within clinical areas. Responsible for coordinating day-to-day activities, you'll provide vital supervision and mentorship to team members, ensuring their professional development while maintaining clinical excellence. Balancing planned and unplanned leave, you'll guarantee minimal disruption to patient care, actively participating in direct clinical work when needed.

Collaborating closely with Service Managers and fellow Team Leaders, you'll uphold departmental standards and meet KPIs, ensuring patients and families receive optimal support. Your role demands adept communication, as you'll liaise with team members across diverse locations, addressing facility needs promptly and facilitating effective patient care solutions. With a commitment to ongoing education and training, we offer comprehensive support to enhance your capabilities in this dynamic environment.

Where you'll be working:

This is an opportunity to work for the largest employer in the region which services a population of more than 900,000 across the Hunter, New England, and Lower Mid North Coast areas. John Hunter Hospital is a Level 6, tertiary referral, major trauma and teaching hospital and is the largest hospital in the Hunter New England Local Health District. HNELHD has strong, innovative connections with the University of Newcastle and Hunter Medical Research Institute.

As the largest employer in the region, we encourage our staff to use their knowledge, skills, and experience to innovate and challenge existing methods of operating for the benefit of our patients. Meeting the principles of excellence, every patient, every time.

The NSW Government has committed $835 million to redevelop the John Hunter and John Hunter Children's Hospital. The John Hunter Health and Innovation Precinct project will deliver an innovative and integrated precinct with industry-leading facilities.  The project will work in collaboration with health, education, and research partners to meet the current and future needs of the greater Newcastle, Hunter New England, and Northern NSW regions.

Benefits:

  • Benefit from comprehensive support for ongoing education and training.
  • Sustainable Healthcare: Together towards zero.
  • ADO's each month (for full time employees).
  • 4 weeks annual leave (pro-rata for part time employees).
  • Salary packaging options.
  • Fitness Passport.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for staff and family members.
  • Opportunity to work and collaborate with a range of non-clinical and clinical professionals.

Requirements:

  • Must hold as a minimum a bachelor degree in Social Work which provides eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers, or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer.
  • Willingness and ability to actively participate in the after-hours / weekend on-call roster covering John Hunter Hospital and John Hunter Children's Hospital.
  • Eligible to drive in NSW and willingness to travel for work purposes.

This position is for you if:

  • You enjoy mentoring staff and working in the fast-paced environment of a tertiary-level acute hospital.
  • You enjoy the challenges of managing a large team – 14 FTE of level 1 – 4 staff and take on a proportional clinical workload to be negotiated.
