Role

This position has up to 30 recall days per annum.

Will usually be a member of the leadership team who is accountable for the development and delivery of key services that are integral to the effective operation of a school/s. Provides a range of services and/or undertakes the analysis of complex problems that form part of the policy framework.

A school or group of schools would need to have the necessary diversity and complexity to create a role at range 5. Management of a major school or district initiative, project or Department targeted strategy would be an indicator depending on the breadth of management responsibilities.

An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee's position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.


Responsibilities

Required skills and experience:

  • Write well-designed, maintainable, and testable code
  • SQL (Microsoft T-SQL desired, but transferrable skills will be considered)
  • ASP.NET (C#, Visual Basic)
  • HTML, CSS, JavaScript
  • Comprehensive understanding of the SDLC
  • Proven track record of success working in a diverse team

Desired skills and experience:

  • Experience with Web Services development and API
  • Confidence, self-motivation, and a desire to be challenged
  • Aptitude and willingness to learn new technologies
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in software/application development


Key Performance Indicators

  • Perform VSV’s software development function
  • Gather requirements and develop bespoke applications
  • Maintain existing VSV in-house applications
  • Investigate any reported bugs or system issues and take remedial action to resolve them efficiently and with minimal disruption to VSV users
  • Maintain technical documentation and deployment repositories
  • Meet key metrics set by Executive and ICT Manage

Other Information

VSV employs a hybrid rostering system of remote and onsite work. The successful applicant will be required to work onsite at Virtual School Victoria, 315 Clarendon Street, Thornbury on their rostered onsite day(s).

Applications should be prepared in a standard font, preferably Arial or Calibri, at size 11 or 12. Pages should be single sided and have well delineated sections using clear headings.

Applicants are advised to include:

  • A cover sheet providing the name of the applicant, record number (where applicable), home and email address, telephone number and a telephone number where the applicant can be contacted during business hours.
  • A specific response to each of the five selection criteria of no more than one page per criterion.
  • A separate curriculum vitae that is a summary of experience and qualifications.
  • The names of three referees including contact details, current or past position and relationship to the applicant, and a short explanation as to which selection criteria each referee can best comment on.
