The Opportunity

As an ISG advisor in the software sourcing & advisory practice, you will participate as part of a global Software Advisory team, and an industry leading APAC IT advisory team focused on optimising client software value chain through software sourcing strategies, negotiations, pricing analyses and cost modelling, for on-premises and cloud provisioned software.

You will have the opportunity to lead projects for large software sourcing engagements and critical workstreams for complex multi-software sourcing as well as broader ITO, BPO, F&A, HR, and related outsourcing engagements.

This position will operate under the supervision of a Director or Partner, both as part of the global Software Advisory team and also as part of the APAC team with over 85 people in Australia. You are a highly regarded SME and expected to operate independently, while providing high customer satisfaction results to our clients with support from the broader global and regional teams.

The Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Identify and articulate optimisation and negotiation opportunities related to a Client’s software spend with the leading enterprise software providers (such as Microsoft, ServiceNow, IBM/RedHat, SAP, Salesforce, Oracle, and VMWare) We are seeking candidates with experience with at least two of the mentioned providers
  • Negotiate or support negotiations for best-in-class price, quality, terms and conditions, and service levels for on-premises and cloud software solutions and related services
  • Assist Clients in thinking through broader operational and transformation implications of their technology purchases
  • Stay abreast of research and analyse the relevant IT marketplaces (i.e., software and consulting/ contracting vendors) to provide industry insight on the abovementioned providers
  • Interact, and influence effectively, at an executive level with Clients
  • Perform financial evaluations of proposals, business case scenarios, and transformation costs and risks associated with technology deployment
  • Manage multiple projects which potentially span a wide category range (software, cloud, transformation, software, and occasionally some hardware)
  • Identify and cultivate additional projects within existing Clients and support sales efforts with technical knowledge
  • Support the ISG brand and thought leadership by authoring web articles, papers, and other collateral (such as case studies, etc.) on industry trends and strategies impacting software advisory and digital transformation, for use in marketing and education to our prospective Clients; speak as a subject matter expert at ISG conferences and other events

The Role Requirements

Our ideal candidate will have:
  • Minimum of 5 years of cloud and on-premises software strategic sourcing and negotiations with intimate knowledge of software delivery and software licensing models.
  • Experience with negotiating software license agreements with at least two of the major software providers (such as Microsoft, ServiceNow, IBM/RedHat, SAP, Salesforce, Oracle, and VMWare) including understanding of their commercial models, licensing metrics, market positioning, sales tactics, and corresponding vendor specific sourcing strategies
  • Capable of performing quantitative analysis such as software pricing models and cost projections based on unit pricing, license volumes, commitment terms and deployment plans based on multiple data inputs such as quotes, contracts, transaction spend data, deployment plans and budgets
  • The ability to lead in the development of initial software assessments, project plans, vendor research and selections, license and subscription optimisation, quantitative analysis and modelling, contract negotiations and post selection administrative actions
  • Ability to clearly define projects, objectives, goals, schedules, and assignments
  • Ability to manage complex projects and aggressive timelines, often managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent communication skills and effective communication with all levels of management with both concision and persuasiveness; internally and with clients and software provider
  • Presenting and selling concepts and strategies at multiple levels in a large organisation during projects as well as pre-sales support as an SME in ISG sales pursuits and presentations
  • Understanding of Enterprise and Public Sector sourcing cultures and behaviours
  • Software provider research and market analysis skills

Your Education
  • A Bachelor of Arts or Science degree in a technical or scientific field, ideally in Information Technology, Finance, Engineering, Supply-Chain Management, Accounting, Business, Math/Analytics; or equivalent work experience
