An opportunity exists for a Specialist Downhole Geophysicist to join our Perth-based Resource Estimation – Geophysics team. As a Specialist Downhole Geophysicist, you will be part of a dynamic team that is responsible for the management and interpretation of downhole geophysical data across Fortescue operations.
You will use your expertise and skills to provide high-quality data and insights that will support resource estimation, ore body knowledge, and production optimisation. You will also be involved in the development and implementation of new technologies and methods in the downhole geophysical space for the company.
Key Responsibilities
Manage, QAQC, pre-process, and analyse downhole geophysical data from various sources and techniques, such as natural gamma, gamma-density, magnetic susceptibility, resistivity, televiewer, etc.
Integrate and interpret downhole geophysical data with other geological and geotechnical data to provide enhanced ore body models and characterisation.
Communicate and collaborate with resource estimation geologists, resource definition personnel, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality data and insights for decision making.
Contribute to the development and implementation of new technologies and methods in the downhole geophysical space, such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, inversion, etc.
Keep up to date with the latest developments and best practices in the field of downhole geophysics and data science and how they could be applied to value add at Fortescue.
Qualifications and Experience
Highly motivated with good communication skills and an attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and establish priorities.
7+ years experience (3+ in industry including downhole geophysical data collection, processing, and management experience).
Relevant experience working on iron ore deposits desirable (hematite and other bulk commodities advantageous).
Advanced knowledge of downhole geophysical data collection, processing and analysis required.
Degree in Geology, geophysics or petrophysics (or closely related discipline).
Additional post-graduate qualifications in computer science or related discipline advantageous.
Proven commitment to safety.
