About your new role

We are seeking a Specialist Surveyor operator dedicated to 3D real world data capture, to produce 3D models and datasets for various engineering, hydrographic and planning requirements. The position will be responsible for the successful delivery of a diverse portfolio of 3D projects, end-to-end management of 3D datasets, improvement and implementation of 3D data capture systems and working as part of a team to solve technical problems.

The position will require a high level of expertise in 3D reality capture technology including terrestrial and mobile laser scanners. A requirement of this position will be to assist with the delivery of internal and external 3D spatial deliverables such as vendor auditing and internal QA where necessary.

The Specialist Surveyor-Laser Scanning role will be responsible for the management of Reality Capture projects within the Gold Coast LGA.

Responsibilities and duties of the role incumbent include, but are not limited to:

  • undertake and/or manage minor, moderately complex and complex multi-disciplinary:
  • Land, Engineering and Hydrographic surveys via reality capture methods including terrestrial and mobile laser scanning.
  • prepare or supervise the preparation of survey and 3D spatial deliverables.
  • Support and/or drive internal initiatives that contribute to long-term operational excellence
  • manage assigned projects and tasks allocated to resources to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, to a quality standard and meet customer requirements and expectations.
  • provide supervision of daily activities and on-the-job training to any subordinate survey staff
  • train key staff in:
  • the procedures and processes for reality capture technologies including terrestrial laser scanning, mobile laser scanning
  • new surveying equipment and/or software as required
  • contribute to the development of digital documentation particularly in relation to reality capture
  • provide advice associated with 3D data sets for external surveys in consultation with relevant stakeholders
  • provide specialist technical advice to the Infrastructure Delivery Branch, the Directorate and Council
  • contribute to the development and delivery of business improvement projects, to improve survey services practices and procedures.
  • participate in the assessment and selection of new surveying equipment and/or software
  • liaise with Senior Surveyors to advise of equipment maintenance issues in line with Survey Services equipment maintenance schedule
About you

You have highly developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills ensuring consistency and clarity to provide advice relevant to survey practices. You will bring your knowledge and experience to this role including:
  • Well-developed supervisory experience including the ability to develop and motivate staff, provide expert advice and set and monitor project outcomes.
  • Well-developed analytical, problem solving and investigative skills with the ability to contribute to the development of new techniques and methodologies, as they apply to surveying.
  • You will have a Bachelor of Technology or Degree in Surveying (or equivalent relevant qualification) and significant experience in 3D reality capture
  • You will have a current 'C' class Driver’s Licence (Manual)

The salary range is $111,290.07 - $140,459.76 plus superannuation. Please note, that this range incorporates a critical skills payment negotiable with the successful candidate for a period of up to 3 years based on their skills and experience.
