Hume City Council's Community Health & Wellbeing department is seeking a motivated professional Sports Development and Inclusion Officer that is committed to increasing access to sport and active recreation for groups experiencing barriers to participate within the community.
The role of the Sports Development and Inclusion Officer is to:
- Increase access to, and participation in sport and active recreation opportunities in Hume, with a focus on vulnerable groups that experience participation barriers.
- Adopt a holistic approach to supporting health & wellbeing and strengthening pathways to both formal and informal physical activity opportunities.
- Involve engagement with diverse stakeholders to support vulnerable groups in Hume and build the capacity of Hume physical activity providers to offer inclusive services and activities.
Key Skills
- Tertiary qualifications in sport and recreation, community development or substantial experience working in these sectors.
- Demonstrated understanding of the needs and the issues affecting Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities, people with disabilities, and other under-represented groups when accessing sport and active recreation opportunities.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to create effective partnerships with a diverse range of stakeholders (e.g. sports clubs, community organisations, Council teams etc.).
- Experience in planning, implementing and evaluating strategies aimed at increasing access to or participation in sport and active recreation.
