Position details

The Role:
You will be joining a friendly and motivated multidisciplinary team, based in the Primary Health office in Launceston. You will work under the guidance of a Palliative Care Medical Director and in a core team of experienced specialists, two registrars and palliative Nursing and Allied Health staff, in association with palliative-trained GPs, to provide palliative care services to the Northern Tasmania catchment area. The role offers diversity of palliative care practice across community, inpatient and acute care settings, allowing continuity of care to patients regardless of their location of care.
We are a dynamic, progressive team, highly motivated to expand our services, better meet the needs of the marginalised and disadvantaged, and develop closer integration with specialist colleagues across the LGH. An example of this focus is our engagement with the national Comprehensive Palliative Care in Aged Care (CPCiAC) program, which aims to improve palliative care in aged care facilities. This is a Clinical Nurse Consultant-led model of care supported by a trainee medical registrar and palliative care medical specialist.
The successful applicant will enjoy opportunities to contribute to education in partnership with UTAS, as well as in the provision of education. supervision and training to medical students, registrars and palliative medicine advanced trainees. The role also includes participation in the Specialist Palliative Care Service education program and the Department of Medicine academic meetings and education program.
Projects
Over the next several years, the service will be involved in the planning of a new inpatient palliative care facility for Northern Tasmania. Other projects include the re-establishment of a state-wide palliative clinical network; working with pharmacies to improve palliative medication supply and support; and improving after-hours direct care support for palliative patients.
Provide the highest possible standard of specialist palliative care medical services, consultancy and advice to clients and families.
- Facilitate the development and delivery of best practice specialist palliative care medical services in Tasmania.
- Provision of teaching in palliative care for undergraduate and post graduate students, general practitioners and primary and specialist health professionals.
- Promote and participate in palliative care research to improve evidence-based practice.
- Work collaboratively with primary health service providers and specialist health service providers across the range of settings for effective continuity of care.
- Actively pursue improved outcomes for clients in need of palliative care by participating in clinical audits, evaluation and quality improvement activities.

Details of Appointment
Fixed term, part time, day work, position working 45.6 hours per fortnight commencing from the 2nd of October 2022 until 30th June 2025. On call is a requirement associated with the position.

Salary:
Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $163,005 - $247,768 per annum, pro rata
Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $234,726 -$247,768 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Motor vehicle allowance of $25,758 per annum, pro rata
- Communication allowance of $1948 per annum, pro rata
- Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $24,927 per annum, pro rata
- Access to salary packaging
- Relocation package and accommodation allowance available
- Market Allowance
- May be entitled to participate in the Private Patient Scheme
Eligibility:
Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:
Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty
- Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.
Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:
- Fellow with the Australasian Chapter of Palliative Medicine (AChPM) or a Specialist Medical Practitioner with extensive experience in Palliative Medicine
