Staff Specialist in Neonatology
John Hunter Children’s Hospital
Temporary Part Time (0.8 FTE, March to October 2024)
About you
We are seeking an individual who is motivated by and has experience in all facets of clinical neonatal/perinatal medicine, including specialist experience in a tertiary perinatal centre as well as experience in the care of infants with a variety of surgical conditions. Suitable applicants will have experience in education, teaching and supervision, as well as experience in the aspects of clinical governance expected for a Staff Specialist.
Suitable applicants will have:

  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Medical Specialist within the field of Paediatrics and Child Health
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) in Neonatal/ Perinatal Medicine (or equivalent)
About the role
John Hunter Children’s Hospital has an exciting opportunity available for an enthusiastic experienced Neonatologist to join the Neonatology team in the John Hunter Children’s Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) situated within the John Hunter Hospital we have 19 intensive care beds and 24 special care beds with an average of 1200 admissions per year. All facets of neonatal care are provided, including care of infants with extreme prematurity, unwell term infants, infants requiring neonatal surgery (excluding cardiothoracic), as well as multidisciplinary follow up clinics. As part of Hunter NETS, we average about 60 neonatal retrievals per year and 350 back transfers to facilitate infants getting closer to home for ongoing care.
John Hunter Hospital is a regional tertiary referral centre for foetal abnormalities and has an experienced maternal foetal medicine team providing services for the Hunter New England Local Health District, Central Coast and Mid-North Coast of New South Wales.

Preferred qualities:
  • Experienced Neonatologist Evidence of a contribution to research and experience in leading CPI projects with a keen interest to lead change to improve neonatal outcomes
  • Experience in Bayley Developmental Assessments to contribute to the Neonatal Follow-Up programme.
Salary range: Commensurate with experience
