STAFF SPECIALIST - OTOLARYNGOLOGIST| NORTHERN TERRITORY

Challis Recruitment is currently recruiting for our clients based in the Northern Territory for a Staff Specialist in Otolaryngologist to join their team.

The Position:

Provide high quality specialist general surgical services, through the Department of Otolaryngology, to the Hospital.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide and ensure the provision of high-quality care for patients in the Department of Otolaryngology.
  2. Undertake outreach clinics in the wider community as required.
  3. Provide advice to the Executive Director of Medical & Clinical Services on matters relating to Otolaryngology.
  4. Initiate and partake in quality management, peer review and ongoing personal medical education programs, and undertake research as appropriate.
  5. Ensure adequate supervision of and participation in teaching programs for junior medical staff and medical students.
  6. Undertake research as appropriate.
  7. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces
  8. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.

The Hospital:

The hospital is the major acute hospital for Central Australia with 136 beds, serving up to 60,000 people including visitors to the region. ASH provides a range of specialist services including General Medicine, Rehabilitation medicine, Palliative care medicine, Nephrology, Emergency Medicine, Anaesthesia, Intensive Care, Surgery (including Ophthalmology, ENT and Orthopaedics), Psychiatry, Paediatrics, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

The range of clinical work is unique, with a strong focus on indigenous health and infectious diseases. The Hospital is a teaching hospital, and a campus of the Northern Territory Clinical School of the Flinders University of South Australia. Conjoint or honorary academic appointments have been made in the Department of Paediatrics, Medicine, Surgery and Obstetrics & Gynaecology. The Centre for Remote Health, a joint venture between the Charles Darwin University and Flinders University of South Australia is adjacent to the hospital.

The Hospital has also entered into a new affiliation with the Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute for research and clinical services for cardiovascular disease and diabetics. A new building is being constructed on the campus to accommodate the Baker IDI Institute. The Hospital is accredited by the Northern Territory Postgraduate Medical Council on behalf of the Medical Board of the Northern Territory for intern and junior medical officer training and has an active clinical training program. It provides excellent clinical training opportunities and experience relevant to rural general practice and is an affiliated teaching hospital of the Universities of Sydney, New South Wales and Queensland.
