Canberra Community Law is a leading not for profit community legal centre in the ACT and its region committed to social justice and human rights.

We are seeking a full time Solicitor to work in our Street Law service. Street Law is a generalist legal outreach service that provides information, legal advice, discrete and ongoing representation services to those experiencing or are at risk of homelessness.

Our Street Law service delivers outreach legal services to its client group at various community service agencies within the ACT. This position will have a specific focus on providing legal services to vulnerable women through providing outreach services at women’s refugees.  

Please note that being a woman is a genuine occupational qualification under section 34 of the Discrimination Act 1991 (ACT).

This is an excellent opportunity for a solicitor with demonstrated commitment to social justice and human rights and capacity to advocate for and work effectively with disadvantaged clients.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Working as a member of Street Law’s legal team to provide legal services to clients who are homeless or at risk of homelessness;
  • Undertaking outreach, community legal education and law reform activities; and
  • Supervising and teaching clinical law students.
