YMCA Social Impact is the charitable arm of the Y Brisbane and officially operates as Y-Care (South East Queensland) Inc. Our vision is to be an unbreakable organisation that maximises impact across all of our programs. We are a team consisting of more than 100 staff and 120 volunteers that believe in the power of inspired young people. We operate multiple programs within four key service streams including:


  • Community Housing
  • Food for All (Schools' Breakfast Program)
  • Social Enterprise (Op Shop)
  • Youth Education and Empowerment (Vocational School, Community Hubs, School-Based Mentoring, and Get Set for Work)


YMCA Vocational Schools, part of the YMCA Brisbane, provide adjusted education programs and vocational training to secondary students, who would benefit from an alternative learning environment. Our North Lakes Junior Campus prides themselves in practical, flexible, collaborative programs accompanied by commercial grade salon and kitchen as well as state-of-the-art music studios and sporting equipment that focuses on individual growth and development.


Students also participate in programs dedicated to enhancing practical and personal skills, at a pace that encourages school attendance, engagement and confidence.

ABOUT THE ROLE


We are now interested in appointing 1 permanent, full-time Teacher to join our dedicated multi-disciplinary team at the North Lakes Junior Campus.

The ideal applicant will be looking for a challenge, have a passion for working with young people, a strong interest in the development of the holistic person, a personal interest in health and fitness, spirituality, personal well-being and values and ongoing professional development.


  • Teacher with confidence in delivering a combination of Australian Curriculum subjects and/or creative arts and/or Physical Education.
  • You will have experience and/or interest in working within a trauma informed framework
  • Dedicated to providing students with a real opportunity and commitment to continuous improvement is celebrated each and every day
  • You will be supported and encouraged to take ownership of our purpose built 21st century learning spaces;
  • You can make a real impact in the lives of some of South East Queensland's most disadvantaged young people.
  • Permanent Full time position

SELECTION CRITERIA


  • Hold a relevant Bachelor degree, current Queensland Teacher Registration, First Aid Certificate and CPR Qualifications;
  • Be able to demonstrate practical experience teaching and supporting young people and the development of positive student relationships;
  • Ability to apply appropriate knowledge to plan and prepare teaching and learning programs to meet the diverse characteristics, needs and learning styles of students who are at risk of disengaging from education, whilst ensuring program delivery is consistent with relevant syllabi, curriculum policies and vocational objectives;
  • Work successfully in a small team and within the schools' philosophy & ethos to establish productive partnerships and achieve educational outcomes.

  • YMCA Vocational Schools will match the teaching level you are currently on as well as provide the opportunity for salary sacrifice. This equates to roughly an extra $10,000 per year on top of your salary or $6,000 extra in hand.
  • Our working year is 195 days total with 25 of those days being non-contact time focusing on: 15 days professional development and 10 days focused on student individualised planning.
  • Our school days are 9.30 - 1pm Monday & Friday, & 9.30 - 2.30pm Tuesday, Wednesday, &Thursday.
