Position Information
Hunter River High School is a comprehensive secondary school with a support unit of nine classes located on Worimi land, close to the Hunter River at Heatherbrae. The school funds one additional support class for students requiring additional support. The student enrolment of 970 students with 20% of students identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. Through a culture of connectedness and embedded Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) values of Harmony, Respect, Honesty and Success, the school provides a learning environment that aims to give each student the opportunity to reach their highest potential. The school is committed to continually improving effective classroom practices and staff professional learning being the key to ensuring this. Specific Selection Criteria
Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with behavioural disorders, emotional disturbance, complex needs, Mild, Moderate and Severe Intellect Disability (Sec), challenging behaviours and mental health with a knowledge of trauma informed teaching practice.
Evidence of implementing strong classroom and behaviour management strategies, and wellbeing programs with proven ability to develop a positive learning environment which promotes high engagement and individualised success.
Demonstrated ability to increase educational outcomes for Aboriginal students in a positive and culturally inclusive learning environment.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive, collaborative relationships with staff, students, parents / carers and external agencies.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
