Position Information 
Rutherford Technology High School located respectfully on the traditional lands of the Wonnarua People, is a large comprehensive High School supporting students from West Maitland to Branxton. Positive Behaviour for Learning is a focus supporting all members of the school community to be respectful, responsible and committed to learning. Current enrolment is 1405 with 22% students Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and students from a variety of cultural backgrounds, some with English as a second language. The school currently has 11 Support Classes. The school’s Family, Occupation Education Index is 138 with an Index of Community Socio-Educational Advantage of 903 in 2024. The school prides itself on providing students with opportunities to excel and reach their potential by effectively resourcing a wide range of sporting, cultural, vocational and academic programs. The Rutherford Learning Community supports the school to have strong links with partner primary schools to support student transition to High School, community engagement and collaborative teacher practice. The school’s Senior Leadership team works to build and sustain strong partnerships with other government agencies and community organisations to support improved outcomes for all students. Specific Selection Criteria 
  1. Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with Emotion Disturbance, Behaviour Disorders and Autism in a secondary setting. 
  2. Demonstrated ability to plan, implement and evaluate individualised teaching and learning plans and programs for students' complex needs. 

  3. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to work collaboratively, and professionally with staff, parents/carers, external support agencies and the wider school community, to build and enhance a culture of inclusivity and excellence.

  4. Knowledge of Aboriginal Education and capacity to contribute and promote a positive, inclusive culture that supports the social and wellbeing needs of students.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
