Position Information
Wellington High School is located on Wiradjuri land and committed to working with families and the wider community to provide students with an education that will equip them with the skills they require to become successful citizens, with an emphasis on nurturing their confidence and creativity through a strong base of literacy and numeracy.
Wellington High School services a rural community in Central New South Wales and provides a comprehensive curriculum for Years 7 to 12 in a caring and supporting environment, providing programs which cater for students of all abilities. It is the sole provider for Years 11 and 12 in the Wellington area. The school has 310 students, 59% of whom are Aboriginal and 3% LBOTE. Significant funding is received by the school through the Resource Allocation Model.
Wellington High School is a Restorative Practice School and 'Achievement for All Students" is the focus in all school programs.
The school has excellent Vocational Education programs and facilities, with Trade Training centres in Primary Industries and Metals and Engineering.
Through the Situational Analysis, we were able to identify the following areas as those for explicit future planning: the use of data to inform teaching practice, improving the engagement of our students and community to increase the achievement of learning outcomes and the adoption of more explicit teaching practice.
Specific Selection Criteria
- Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with Mild Intellectual Disability (Secondary), Moderate Intellectual Disability (Secondary), Behavioural Difficluties, Emotional Disturbance, Mental Health and Autism (Secondary).
- Capacity to provide specialist assistance to students in regular classes with additional learning and support needs.
- Highly developed interpersonal, communication and organisational skills to build positive relationships with teachers, school support staff, students and parents.
- Proven expertise in developing, implementing and evaluating individualised learning, support and well-being plans, in partnership with staff, students, and families.
- Proven ability to provide specialist professional support to build the capacity of colleagues to improve teaching and learning specifically for students with additional needs.
- Proven commitment to the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policies and the Inclusive Education Statement
