About the team
The Regional and Outer Metropolitan division is focused on understanding the needs of regional communities across NSW and delivering customer-centred integrated transport services and infrastructure.
The opportunity
Right now, we have multiple permanent opportunities for Team Leaders Grades 1-2 to join our construction teams in the Central West district based in Orange, Bathurst or Lithgow NSW. The team delivers road construction activities such as road safety widening & barrier installs, enhanced road pavements, overtaking lanes and heavy patching works, to name a few.
Leading the road construction crew and reporting to the Supervisor, you will be coordinating construction activities across road projects, You will be responsible for: coordinating the road construction crew, and the activities on the project, keeping the team moving safely and productively. You will ensure the crew follows quality systems and employs safe methods of work, as well as:
- providing guidance and direction to team members
- resolve routine problems that arise without support
- participating in team meetings and pro-actively offer suggestions for improvement
- resolving conflict between team members or others outside the team
- providing on the job training to team members in relevant procedures as required
- ensuring safety, environmental and quality processes are implemented on site
- supervision of minor contracts associated with the team’s activities
- Team Leader Grade 2 works under limited supervision and a high degree of autonomy

About you
We’re seeking a proactive and organised leader with extended knowledge and experience in a civil construction environment.
You will have strong leadership skills leading and developing a team. You will be an excellent communicator with great negotiation and conflict resolution skills. You will have proven ability to follow appropriate safe working procedures and resolve routine problems independently. We are also looking at applicants who can build strong working relationships with external and internal stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of projects.
We want you to be your best and will provide you with opportunities to develop your skills. You’ll hold a white card, Traffic Control certification, a valid drivers licence (truck licence advantageous), experience operating at a Road Worker Grade 3 level, and sound experience using internal reporting systems.
Reading and interpreting construction diagrams and plans will be required for this role.
As our teams operate across the region, it is highly likely you may be required to work outside normal working hours, attend after hour callouts, and may be requested to travel throughout the state including working and camping at locations away from the base station.
Wage and Benefits
The wage for these positions is:
- Team Leader Grade 1 is $1,405 gross per week, plus super and allowances.
- Team Leader Grade 2 is $1,498.50 gross per week, plus super and allowances
(This is a base rate for a 38-hour week - additional entitlements such as penalty rates for reasonable overtime and travel allowance apply in accordance with the relevant award.)
