About the role

A unique and exciting permanent full-time role based in Deniliquin.

This is a fantastic time to come onboard with Woomera Aboriginal Corporation as we are expanding our Out of Home Care services in Deniliquin! The successful candidate will be integral in the setup of the service and the newly acquired office space. There will be more opportunities for growth in the area which will appeal to anyone who is passionate about innovation and service delivery.  

Under the direction of the CEO the Team Leader of the Permanency Support (PSP) and Family Preservation (FPP) Programs has primary responsibility to lead, manage and co-ordinate the day-to-day operations of these teams. 

The Team Leader PSP and FPP will ensure the effective implementation and delivery of the programs in accordance with the Child and Young Persons Care and Protection Act (1988), Children’s Guardian Act 2019 and the Office of the Children’s Guardian NSW Child Safe Standards for Permanent Care 2015. 

The Team Leader will monitor the performance of the teams to ensure that the work outputs in the programs are efficient and effective, work methods and practices meet accreditation and service standards and policies and procedures are adhered to.

We are seeking a qualifiedTeam Leader who has extensive experience in the leadership of child focused Out of Home Care and Preservation Services.

Main responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage and co-ordinate the day-to-day operations of the PSP and FPP teams in Deniliquin to ensure the effective implementation and delivery of the programs in accordance with relevant Acts and legislative requirements.
  • In collaboration with the CEO ensure services are meeting compliance in accordance with legislation and funding requirements. 
  • Develop networks and maintain mutually beneficial working relationships with industry and other stakeholders. 
  • Meet mandatory reporting responsibilities with legislated timelines.
  • As directed by the CEO investigate allegations of reportable conduct in accordance with established policy and procedures.
  • Supporting and supervising case workers to ensure the continuity of support for families, carers, children and young people through appropriate referral, transition and follow up.
  • Always maintain confidentiality in relation to records for children, young people, and their families/carers.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call roster. 

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

  • Minimum Diploma of Community Services, Leadership and Management or relevant
  • Extensive experience in Leadership particularly in Out of Home Care and Preservation or relevant field 
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and/or experience working in or for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Experience in trauma informed care, techniques, and interventions for achieving positive outcomes for children who have experienced trauma
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, proven experience in report writing and record management, and the ability to problem solve, negotiate, and resolve concerns and conflict.
  • Proven analytical and assessment skills
  • Proven ability to multi-task and prioritise often competing workloads to meet reporting requirements within set timeframes
  • A current satisfactory NSW Working with Children's Check
  • A current satisfactory National Police Check
  • A current driver's license 

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Prior experience contributing to the identification and implementation of continuous improvement opportunities and the ongoing review of policy and procedures.
  • Previous experience in or strong knowledge of child protection areas. 
  • Previous experience is managing organisational growth and leading teams through change. 
  • It is an advantage if you are of Aboriginal decent and have established ties with the Aboriginal community in the Deniliquin region and have knowledge of the local area and local people.
