Job description

  • Clerk grade 9/10
  • Salary ($113,343-$124,901) plus super and annual leave loading
  • Fulltime ongoing role
  • Located in Walcha or Armidale

Lead a multidisciplinary team implementing identified parks programs including fire, cultural heritage, pest and weed control, law enforcement, community engagement and recreation.


About the Role

This is an integral role in fostering a culture of professionalism and high performance. The Team Leader Rangers (TLR) leads team of five professional Rangers and is responsible for achieving the agency’s goals by setting clear objectives and tasks. The role is highly diverse which is mainly office based but field work is still a regular requirement. The TLR is expected to have a broad understanding of all of the Area’s projects and be in a position to provide advice and assistance as required.


The TLR reports directly to the Area Manager and is expected to work to identify and manage key influences affecting the Area within government and the community. The TLR is regarded a senior management role with significant influence in supporting the Area Manager achieve conservation and community outcomes. The role also has a close relationship with the Senior Field Supervisor who oversees all operations. The TLR must ensure information flow, planning and reporting relevant to the field operations of the Area plus internal and external projects that may involve contractors.


The Northern Inland Branch manages 167 parks and reserves in some of NSW most diverse and spectacular landscapes, ranging from World Heritage rainforest, sub-alpine forests, gorges and wild rivers, internationally recognised wetlands, wilderness areas to semi-arid environments. We protect over 250 threatened species and 22 endangered ecological communities and manage 88 visitor areas and 47 campgrounds. We live and work in vibrant rural communities and collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders, including Aboriginal joint management committees.


About You

To be successful in the role, you will have:

  • Strong leadership skills to manage a diverse team in multiple locations
  • Very strong facilitation and negotiation skills
  • The ability to juggle competing priorities to meet deadlines
  • A high attention to detail and great communication skills
  • Expert project planning skills and discipline to ensure due process is followed
  • Sound IT capabilities, particularly in databases, common MS Office software and some GIS experience
  • Industry experience including environmental assessment skills

Essential Requirements

  • Knowledge of and experience in the implementation of current relevant environmental legislation, with demonstrated ability to interpret and apply relevant environmental legislation.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing diverse, dispersed and/or multi-disciplinary teams in a changing environment.
  • Current NSW Driver’s Licence
