Technical Assurance Systems Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Technical Assurance Systems Engineer to assist in the development and embedding of the engineering management framework and systems engineering practices, ensuring safe, cost effective and reliable systems design, installation, and maintenance.

This is a great opportunity for someone who has recently completed undergraduate studies with a relevant bachelor or a professional to bring their technical expertise to a challenging and rewarding role within the Rio Tinto Iron Ore Rail, Ports and Core Services, Rail Engineering Team.

Reporting to the Senior Advisor Systems Tech Assurance, you will:

  • Assist in upkeep and development of the Railway Engineering Management Framework (EMF) artefacts, e.g., Requirements Management (RM) Plan
  • Assist to develop Railway personnel competence to apply Systems Engineering (SE) and EMF practices
  • Apply SE standards and processes, aligned with Railway EMF
  • Assist projects to develop rail system requirements, including review of Concept of Operation and System Requirements Specification, artefacts
  • Utilise RM Application, i.e., DOORS Next Gen (DNG), for development and maintenance of rail engineering standards and specifications
  • Assist with implementation of Management of Change (MoC) and Configuration Management application and procedures

About you

To be successfully considered for this role you will have:

  • A relevant Tertiary Degree (e.g., Bachelor of Engineering)
  • Completed undergraduate studies with relevant degrees / certification
  • Rail (e.g., rail systems), defence/military, aviation or mining related industry experience
  • Proven knowledge and skills in Requirements Engineering, Systems Engineering and Assurance, with experience of their application during acquisition and/or in-service support phases of complex systems
  • Proven experience or strong capacity to learn and work with RM Applications, e.g., DOORS or DNG
  • Knowledge of engineering change / configuration management processes
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with capacity to facilitate workshops and meetings

Where you will be working

This role is being offered in our Perth based offices – CBD Central Park. Our privately owned and operated rail network is an essential part of our integrated production process and services our 15 mines across the Pilbara via 1,700km of track. With depots located at Tom Price, Cape Lambert and Dampier (7 Mile), each train is operated by a single driver and comprises up to three locomotives and 240 ore cars stretching to approximately 2.7 kilometres in length with over 40 trains operating per day. We are also applying and adapting technology to improve safety and productivity across our rail network.
