The Company
The Water and Carbon Group (WCG) is a unique engineering contractor leading the industry in the design, build, operation and financing of sustainable infrastructure and nature-based solutions. Since 2007, WCG has been at the forefront of sustainable engineering and environmental solutions across a range of industries including the water, carbon and environmental services, wastewater, waste and remediation industries.
Specifically in the carbon sector, WCG is a both consultant and project developer for carbon offsets. WCG’s focus is to work with landowners to develop their strategy and assist in the development of projects.
The Role
WCG is seeking a Technical Lead to join our team and contribute to the expansion of our Carbon and Natural capital business unit.
The role will involve working collaboratively with landowners to achieve equally beneficial results for both parties. Land-based carbon projects would include Reforestation / HIR / Methane capture / Soil carbon and Blue carbon partnering with entities where necessary to bring in the required expertise. WCG has the capacity to finance all projects or partner on the project with the landowner/site owner. WCG has an AFSL licence (via an intermediary arrangement) enabling the on-sale of ACCUs generated from projects.
You will ideally have a passion and drive to provide solid technical knowledge of land-based carbon projects across the various Clean Energy Regulator’s methodologies. You will be suitably experienced, proactive and able to deliver services to our internal team and to our clients. The role will involve a combination of working from the Brisbane office, home office and on-site field work likely to involve domestic travel, including to remote locations.
Responsibilities
- Reporting to the Carbon and Natural Capital Manager, develop reports for clients and landowners on the carbon offset opportunities using the relevant ERF tools
- Utilizing your environmental technical skills to analyse and apply the relevant ERF methodologies to determine project feasibility under the scheme
- Identifying and quantifying new ERF project opportunities across Agriculture, Vegetation and Wastewater methodologies
- Consulting on land-based carbon projects with major landholders
- Provide technical support and advice on project design, assessing the feasibility of projects, developing and reviewing opportunities, and the validation and ongoing verification of projects
- Evaluation of potential carbon opportunities and projects including detailed and considered forecasting
- Register and manage the registered projects with ERF for registration of ACCUs.
- Establish project monitoring, verification, and reporting activities as per the methodologies
- Prepare and submit essential project reports
- Educated to a degree or higher degree level in a relevant subject area or have equivalent knowledge and experience from working in this field
- Australian Citizenship, or the right to work in Australia
- Approximately 2- 8 years’ experience in the carbon industry
- Knowledge of the carbon markets (domestic and international), abatement and offsetting strategies and Australian carbon offset methodologies and experience in or exposure of land-based project development
- Efficient operator of FullCAM, SavBat and/or other carbon estimating tools relating to the various ERF methodologies
- Excellent understanding of and experience running a range of carbon projects including but not limited to afforestation/reforestation, soil carbon, HIR, restoration projects
- Knowledge of analytical techniques relevant to carbon projects estimating carbon offsets generated by land-based carbon project, and associated understanding of evaluating, monitoring, and measuring the impact for carbon, biodiversity and community benefits
- Familiar with ERF offsets methodologies
- A proactive attitude with the ability to work autonomously and to embrace collaboration
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with an ability to communicate to a broad range of audiences, stakeholders, partners, clients
- Open driver’s licence
