Based at the Bundoora campus, but may be required to work and/or be based at other campuses of the University
About The Position
Under general guidance of the Technical Coordinator, the Technical Officer will be responsible for
overseeing and maintaining the day-to-day operational functions of laboratories and workspaces while providing expert support to teaching and research activities within STEM laboratories and workspaces.
The successful candidate will provide expert advice to users of the spaces and ensure designated areas are operating effectively and safely in compliance with legislative requirements and RMIT policies and procedures. The incumbent may be required to coordinate operations in one or more spaces.
To be successful in this position, you’ll have:
Working knowledge of the routine operation, maintenance, and training of Flow Cytometers (Essential) and other analytical and general laboratory equipment or instruments, including but not limited to Sequencers, Plate Readers, Thermal Cyclers, Spectrophotometers, Imaging Systems, and FreezerPro systems.
Extensive experience executing and trouble-shooting cell sorting on BD flow cytometers is essential.
Experience working within a Biological Science, PC1/2 laboratory setting or in a teaching or research environment.
Demonstrated understanding of current OH&S legislation with knowledge of other field or industry regulations or standards related to the field within the scope of the service area.
Proven initiative and problem-solving skills, highly organised, and the ability to work autonomously and in a team.
Effective oral, written communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and with a diverse range of people from various backgrounds.
