About the role
The Waste Services Unit is responsible for the delivery of the kerbside collection and hard waste services and is looking for a Technical Officer to join a positive and committed team.
As a Technical Officer you will play a significant role in supporting the Waste Services Team’s service delivery and its endeavours to achieve sound environmental outcomes aligned with council’s Waste & Litter Strategy objectives. The role has a strong focus for reducing contamination in the household recycling and food organics garden organics collection streams.
The primary objectives of the position are to
Undertake compliance auditing of council’s household waste & recycling bins to identify and record waste and recycling practices
Undertake field investigation and provide timely responses to service delivery issues in support of delivering a high a level of waste and recycling service to the community
Engage with customers in the course of those duties to advise and guide residence towards better waste management practices and inform them of council’s waste & recycling services
Provide support and input into council’s Waste Education programs so as we can better educate and engage the community on appropriate waste and recycling practices
About you
The successful applicant will have:
A current Victorian Drivers Licence
Basic skills in Microsoft applications
A keen understanding of waste and recycling and council’s services
A sound level of fitness with the capacity to walk up to 10 kilometres per day
Reliance to work in a variety of weather conditions which will include a start time of 5.30 a.m.
Excellent communication skills and a strong focus for customer service excellence, necessary to engage and influence people towards positive outcomes involving sometimes challenging conversations
