Job Description Summary The Trades Assistant is part of the Service Stream CHWMES project, primarily assisting electrical and mechanical maintenance trades with reactive and corrective works on industrial electrical and mechanical systems.
Specifically, the trades assistance provides physical support to trades, as well as spotting, deliveries, warehouse management, and operation of construction equipment including but not limited to.
- Hand tools, power tools, and civil construction equipment including shovels, crow bars and compactors.
- Operation of powered mobile plant and vehicles such as towing a trailer, small trucks, vehicle mounted cranes, forklift and elevated work platofrms.
- Assist with high risk activities such as, working at height, confined space entry and lifting operations
- Use of a tablet computer to document inspections and produce reports
Service Stream’s Utilities & Infrastructure division are currently seeking a Trades Assistant for our team in Ballarat.
Nature of position: Permanent, full-time

About the Role
We are looking for a hands on, mechanically minded person, to work alone or side by side with electricians and mechanical fitters conducting maintenance and repairs on industrial water and wastewater infrastructure in the Ballarat region.
Do you have the expertise, but not the qualification? Do you like things to be organised, structured, and documented to a high level? Do you have the drive and energy to learn and contribute in a physical environment working mainly outdoors?
Specifically, the Trade Assistant provides physical support to trades, as well as receiving deliveries, warehouse management, and operation of construction equipment including but not limited to:
- Hand tools, power tools, pressure washerand civil construction equipment including shovels, crow bars and compactors.
- Operation of powered mobile plant and vehicles such as a towing trailer, small trucks, vehicle mounted cranes, forklift, and elevated work platforms.
- Assist with high-risk activities such as working at height, confined space entry, and lifting operations.
- Use of a tablet computer to document inspections and produce reports.
- A full time permanent position
- Salary in line with your skills and experience with penalty rates
- An RDO every 4 weeks

Experience required:
- Operation of medium sized trucks, forklifts, cranes and or lifting equipment.
- Working with mechanical or electrical systems.
- Working with civil construction equipment preferred.
- Hold a Construction White Card.
- Medium Rigid Driver’s License.
- Forklift License.
- Dogging ticket (preferred).
- First Aid and CPR Accreditation (preferred).
- Working from Height Accreditation (preferred).
- Confined Space Accreditation (preferred).
- Elevated Work Platform (preferred).
- Scaffolding ticket (preferred).
- Electrical Spotters Ticket (preferred).
- Civil Construction and operations tickets (preferred).
