About the team

Train Guards are part of the Sydney Trains Crew Service Experience team. Our team provides safe, reliable and efficient customer rail services across the Sydney metropolitan area.

More than 1.3 million customers travel across our Sydney Trains network every day. In the last five years, customer journeys have increased by 30 per cent and are expected to keep growing at five per cent per year, with a potential two million customer journeys on weekdays by 2026 and an anticipated increase of two million more people living in NSW by 2031.

We’re preparing for the future by employing more crew across our team, adding 41 new trains to our fleet, implementing new technology, and continuing to integrate with the Sydney Metro network.

With customer demand for our train services continuing to rise, we’re looking for the next generation of Train Guards to help deliver safe and fast travel for our customers - now and into the future.

Train Guards are responsible for the safety of our customers and train operations. Train Guards help provide customer service and physical assistance, communicate service information via public announcements and answering enquiries, and are trained to handle critical incidents or emergency situations.

Our six-month paid Trainee Train Guard program will help you develop the skills and capabilities to become a qualified Train Guard. You’ll learn how to manage a variety of work scenarios through a combination of on-the-job and classroom training. You’ll also receive ongoing mentoring and support from our dedicated trainers and get to know others in your training school cohort.

While the path to becoming a Train Guard is dynamic and rewarding, our Trainee program also reflects the work conditions and personal commitment it takes to help Sydney Trains run its network 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Your training schedule will include early mornings, evenings and weekends.
