Underground Production Trainer, FIFO to Mongolia

About the role

We are looking for Underground Production Trainer to join our diverse team delivering the world-class Oyu Tolgoi underground mine in Mongolia. This is a key role to coach, train, mentor and develop the underground national secondary breakage team and a great opportunity to safely bring a world class caving operation into production with the teams. This will be achieved by engaging with multiple on-shore and off-shore teams to define skill requirements, systems of work and resources required to deliver underground production.

The roster for this role is a 4 weeks on/ 2 weeks off FIFO arrangement and will be an on-shift basis. Reporting to the Operations Training Superintendent, you will:

  • Work with multiple stakeholders to coach and develop a competent national workforce capable of safely executing underground secondary breakage operations, specifically oversize and drawpoint hang up management utilizing mobile rock breakers, medium reach secondary blasting machines, water cannons, and oversize popping rigs
  • Comply to all necessary company safety standards and ensure a high-quality standard of secondary breaking activities is achieved whilst achieving the necessary schedule and cost requirements 
  • Providing coaching, development and mentoring of national secondary breakage operators
  • Contribute to the general education of the underground workforce regarding block caving methods, risks and constraints
  • Actively participate in Extraction and Haulage Level training and assist in the planning process to identify opportunities of improvement
  • Responsible to ensure the secondary breakage and drawpoint hang-up activities are performed safely and in accordance with schedule, quality and cost requirements through engagement with multiple work groups
  • Assist with all other production training requirements that may arise
  • Creating roadmap for achieving training objectives for Secondary Breaking activities 
  • Deliver effective train-the-trainer programs in order to rapidly build internal training capabilities and consult and develop training packages for secondary breaking

 What you will bring

  • At least 5+ years’ experience in underground mines, specifically managing oversize and secondary breakage, and managing hung up drawpoints
  • Applicants must hold Certificate IV Training & Assessment or equivalent
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of an integrated delivery team
  • Skills developing and working to process and procedures
  • Quality assurance and continuous improvement skills
  • An ability to work autonomously within a highly complex project delivery environment

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Work and living experience in developing countries with strong cultural awareness
  • Block cave experience

Where you’ll be working

Oyu Tolgoi is an operating Copper / Gold open pit mine with a brownfields underground mining project. The site is located in the Gobi Desert region of Mongolia. The reserves case for the underground project is in the order of 0.5 billion tonnes of ore to be mined from the 95,000 tonnes per day Hugo North Lift 1 (HNL1) panel cave mine with a 20-year operations life. There is also the potential for 3 further block cave districts to increase mine life beyond 100 years.
