The Prison Mental Health Service (PMHS) provides a multi-disciplinary in reach service to people who are in custody in correctional centres across southeast Queensland. The primary goal of the PMHS is to identify those individuals who have a severe mental illness or are at risk of developing mental illness while in custody.

About the role
This position provides clinical and case management support to clients of the Prison Mental Health Service to achieve the best possible clinical outcomes for this complex group. In addition, this position liaises with all relevant clinical and non-clinical stakeholders within the correctional environment as well as with non-clinical support workers in the community to coordinate a holistic approach to recovery and wellbeing with a particular focus on the transition phase surrounding release from custody.
This position may be required to provide prison mental health services to correctional centres between the hours of 8:00am and 4.30pm on weekends
About you
Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:
  • Competent clinical skills in the area of adult mental health including assessment and treatment of acute mental health problems.
  • Demonstrates respect for others, remaining flexible, fair and willing to compromise when dealing with team members.
  • Ability to build rapport with customers and demonstrate empathy, patience and respect in delivering a flexible service that meets customer's needs.
  • Able to work with increasing independence and consistently meet deadlines by using strong organisational and
  • caseload management skills.
  • Understands and adheres to quality systems and processes and proactively identifies areas for improvement.
  • Demonstrate direction and vision with self-development, showing initiative in learning and a willingness to share
  • information with others.
  • Demonstrates honesty, integrity and respect for all patients, carers and staff.
