Transmission Line Technician

As a Transmission Line Technician at Transgrid, you will be responsible for practical and technical expertise in Transmission Line work including inspection, maintenance, repairs and construction of Transmission Lines assets, including the connection of renewable energy to the Network.

You will actively:

  • Ensure plant, tools and equipment and sufficient for a planned task and are ready and available prior to commencement of work, including equipment hire and associated mobile plant
  • Manage jobs under your control to ensure safe and effective completion of work to defined requirements (scope, cost, time, and quality)
  • Communicate in a clear and timely manner with all team leaders, site managers and other stakeholders, ensuring that relevant and appropriate information is provided
  • Complete work and ensure that clear, completed and organised documentation is retained in relevant systems and further work is logged as appropriate
  • Prepare detailed reports on failures or condition concerns of work
  • Engage with stakeholders to ensure work is completed to a satisfactory standard and in a timely manner and be accountable for delivery of construction and maintenance tasks to meet delivery expectations and budget
  • Develop and maintain capabilities to perform the installation, maintenance and repair of Transmission Line assets in accordance with the relevant work instructions, policies and procedures
  • Assist in the development and mentoring of apprentices and junior Transmission Line Technicians and provide performance feedback to assist in development and performance management
  • Develop and maintain the capabilities to provide standby services for Transmission Line asset emergency incidents, including loss of supply
  • Develop leadership capabilities to carry out work safely and effectively
  • Work and operate in a manner which supports the Health and Safety outcomes of our people and our business

To be considered, you must have:

  • Possession of an appropriate qualification;
    • Certificate III in ESI – Power Systems – Transmission and/or Distribution Overhead, or equivalent
  • Transmission and/or distribution line trade experience
  • A current Australian Driver’s Licence
  • Ability to interpret schematic drawings
  • Knowledge in the application of WHS and environmental legislation relative to duties of the position
  • Sound interpersonal skills (including written and oral communication)
  • Knowledge and understanding of all relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Good computer skills and knowledge of computer packages such as Microsoft word, Outlook, Excel.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and work autonomously
  • Strong safety culture
  • Appreciation and sensitivity of difference and diversity
  • Ability to travel and spend substantial time working away from home and base location, dependent on the work demands of the organisation
