Purpose of the role

The Retail Visual Merchandiser has an important role in raising much needed funds to enable The Salvation Army to serve the needs of the local community, whilst providing an environment where customers and volunteers alike are treated with the dignity and respect reflected in the values and mission of The Salvation Army.

Role Required Tasks:

Support Visual

Merchandising

Plans · Research local lifestyle, demographics and design trends · Liaise with Store Manager and/or Corps Officers and/or WHS and/or TSA Property Department regarding fixtures, sourcing design elements required · Design a creative and effective floor plan for the Store · Create appealing displays, that lead customers through the entire store · Revise and present upcoming design ideas to Store Manager each month · Monitor costs and work within provided budget · Consult with and staff and/or volunteers on arranging displays · Implement design plans with Store Manager approval · Ensure store is presentable and inviting at all times · Ensure stock is displayed in accordance with Family Store guidelines and in-store signage is clear and professional · Ensure stock is replenished and regularly rotated according to stock rotation/discount schedule · Regularly liaise with stakeholders regarding design plans and approvals for implementation or updates · Updates to floor layouts at least monthly and to merchandise and mannequins at least weekly · Displays are eye-catching and support a good customer experience · Store staff and volunteers are aware of upcoming display changes and are briefed to be confident in carrying out floor plans and visual merchandising vision · All bric-a-brac, clothing and display is neat, ordered, clean and dust free · Signage is printed, never hand-written · Ensure stock is rotated and discounted according to schedule

Assist to achieve

  • Ensure all fellow volunteers, TSA employees and visiting contractors follow WHS policies and procedures, and that you are demonstrating good WHS practice · Ensure customers are safe at all times · Monitor and remove waste · Advise Store Manager regarding use of the First Aid Kit, ensuring it remains fully stocked · Help maintain staff amenity areas (staff room and locker room), and that these are kept clean and tidy. · All WHS Accidents/Incidents and hazards reported to Store Manager according to procedures · Ensure all volunteers adhere to the safe standard operating procedures and hazard inspections are carried out according to TSA’s Hazard Inspection schedule · Ensure all walkways and change rooms are clear of obstruction and trip hazards (i.e. cords, rugs) · Waste removed from shop floor daily or sooner as required and all waste cleared from Family Store site on a weekly basis · Staff amenity is kept clean and tidy at all times
Other · Any other tasks as necessary · Complete tasks as appropriate

Qualifications and experience requirements for the Role

  • Experience in customer service is favourable
  • Experience in visual merchandising or design is desired
Mandatory requirements of the Role

  • Fully complete The Salvation Army's volunteer registration process
  • Blue Card required if working with team members under the age of 18
  • Complete TSA mandatory training and induction modules, and any other training as required
Roster & time commitment

  • Minimum 4 hours per week
