Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland's Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in North West Queensland and Western Australia.
Job Description
An opportunity exists for an experienced Ventilation Officer to join the team at our Moranbah North Mine. You will provide strategic advice in order to optimise the value of the mine in terms of ventilation.
With your strong communication and engagement skills, high level of planning and problem solving will see you assist with the management, planning, implementation and monitoring of the underground mine ventilation systems to ensure effectiveness against legislation and site requirements.
Reporting to the Mine Manager, you will be responsible for the implementation of the mine's ventilation system and the establishment of effective standards of ventilation for the mine. These duties will include maintaining ventilation strategies/systems as well as regulatory/procedural compliance with respect to ventilation and gas management. You will work with innovative leading edge systems, such as our Voxel Gas Analytics & Monitoring (GAM) system, and benefit from working in an established, professional environment with opportunities to grow your career.
Some of your tasks will include:
- Conduct risk assessments and participate in audits and risk management.
- Report findings and recommend appropriate interventions and reporting structures.
- Contribute to the achievement of the objectives and targets of the Ventilation Department and those of the business area.
- Formal qualifications as a Ventilation Officer being recognised in Queensland.
- Demonstrated ventilation Officer experience (preferably in Coal).
- In depth knowledge of VentSim and ability to use AutoCAD.
- Ability to develop innovative solutions to complex problems, and a continuous improvement mindset.
- A strong background in ensuring hazard identification and risk assessment principles, coupled with the compliance of all. ventilation matters relating to legislation and the site safety management system.
