About the role
The Visting Medical Officer will provide a clinical service to the Calvary Mater Newcastle Emergency Department. Calvary Mater Newcastle is a busy tertiary referral hospital servicing approximately 37000 emergency presentations per annum. It is a referral centre for Psychiatry, Toxicology, and Oncology services. The role will include the supervision of the junior medical workforce, including ACEM trainees within the department. This role will include out of hours service provision and weekend shifts or as determined by the Director of Emergency Medicine.
Key Responsibilities
- You will be the clinician in-charge of a busy Emergency Department, supervising junior staff, nursing, allied health and interacting with speciality teams.
- Participate in continuing medical education and professional development as covered by the supervision arrangements stipulated by the medical board
- Ensure that complex and/or invasive procedures conducted by Emergency Department medical staff are performed by person(s) appropriately trained and skilled in the procedure and with adequate supervision, in accordance with Department Clinical Guidelines and current best practice.
- Ensure that all patients discharged from the department who require non-ED follow-up care receive a written discharge letter and advice about their condition, including the use of patient handouts where available
What you bring
- A Primary Medical Degree registrable by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Fellowship of the Australian College of Emergency Medicine Physicians or other relevant specialist recognition
- Demonstrated experience in Emergency Medicine
- Demonstrated capacity for clinical leadership
- Understanding of the principles of clinical governance to promote quality and safety in health care with
experience in and commitment to evidence based best practice. - Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
- Experience in or knowledge of programs directed at improving the organisation and delivery of care in Emergency Medicine
- A desire to join a team committed to the care of others in a mission based organisation
