As a rapidly growing city, Council is actively planning for the current and future demands from its community for fit-for-purpose waste management and resource recovery infrastructure and services. Ipswich Waste Services (IWS), as Council's only commercial business unit, has the responsibility and obligation to manage waste services with a vision to lead by example and deliver best practice waste and resource recovery solutions.

This is an exciting time to be part of the Resource Recovery team at Ipswich City Council, and this position will play a critical role in the planning and delivery of essential community infrastructure to meet future needs. Working closely with senior management and other business units across Council, you will take a lead in delivering on the Resource Recovery Infrastructure Plan, as a priority deliverable of the Resource Recovery Strategy.

About the role

As Waste Infrastructure Coordinator, you will provide specialist advice and support to the Manager Resource Recovery, act as part of the senior Branch management team. You will liaise with relevant sections of council and external providers to ensure business continuity and operations of the Resource Recovery Branch are maintained, including informing the allocation and planning for Waste Infrastructure requirements.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Strategic oversight of council's civil and built waste and resource recovery infrastructure assets
  • Ensure council's compliance with all relevant legislation (including safety, quality, and environment) with a focus towards achieving best practice performance of waste and resource recovery infrastructure
  • Lead and engage relevant stakeholders with a focus on ensuring effective asset delivery, operation and maintenance of waste and resource recovery infrastructure
  • Identify cost and funding optimisation strategies for establishment and maintenance of civil/municipal Waste Infrastructure
  • Reporting including forecasting, monitoring and control on the resource recovery capital works program
  • Liaise with and provide specialist oversight to ensure the management and completion of projects
  • Identify and document potential risks to projects and determine effective mitigation strategies to minimise risk
  • Manage internal and external stakeholders' expectations relating to the waste and resource recovery infrastructure capital works program, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (e.g. engineering, environmental management, or project management) and/or extensive civil construction experience
  • Extensive experience working in a similar role
  • Current Queensland "C" class driver's licence
  • Project Management qualifications desirable
  • Ideally, experience in a local government procurement and delivery environment

This position is a full time, permanent position, level 8 with a salary commencing at $121,294 plus superannuation of up to 12.5%.
