Role

The role of the Windows Server & Application Systems Administrator is to provide the New Zealand Transport Agency Engagement with support for the Production, Test, Disaster Recovery, Training and Development environments, in conjunction with implementing necessary changes to support New Zealand Transport Agency business needs.
This support covers a broad range of services and applications that sit across operating systems ranging from web and middleware Windows servers, Data Warehouse Windows servers, and interact with external systems.
Windows Servers are virtual running on VMware platforms. Databases are predominately Microsoft SQL.

Application and Systems Management

Responsible for the day-to-day support of applications and systems running on a host operating system.

• Monitor application and system performance, service availability, scheduled maintenance tasks and event logs for normal operations. Apply documented application, system and security patches to ensure the security and stability of the environment.
• Perform tactical performance monitoring.
• Perform software maintenance.
• Ensure backups are made of systems to allow for recovery of systems and data.
• Ensure that anti-virus and other security components are maintained and supported.
• Monitor system capacity against specific capacity plans and limits.
• Document basic reporting procedures for common tasks.
• Assist in the implementation of recurring change requests.
• Perform minor changes and more complex changes with the oversight of senior administrators.

Advanced knowledge and working experience with, but not limited to the following:

• Applications (custom and off the shelf applications)
• Installation
• Patching
• Security
• Networking
• Printing
• Clustering, IIS
• Management Tools
• Scripting. Advanced PowerShell / PowerCLI scripting capabilities.
• Performance Tuning
• Terminal Services (RDS)
• Ability to work with customers and other technical teams.
• Knowledge of standard networking ports and protocols.
• Ability to follow documented patch management solutions.
• Familiarity with IT Service Management terms and processes.
• VMware Administration of virtual machines.
• Azure Administration and exposure to Azure Monitor
• AD/LDAP Administration, Configuration and Management.
• Problem/Diagnosis skills for all areas above.
• Experience with modern IT operations methodologies such as ITIL, with emphasis on IT process improvement.
• Strong team skills, works well across complex organization and drives collaboration.
• Familiarity with systems management concepts, processes and standards; capacity/performance management and tuning; and storage and network management.
• Excellent communications and interpersonal skills.
• Expert level Application Administration, Configuration and Management.
• Interprets internal or external business issues and recommends solutions/best practices.
• Solves problems; takes a broad perspective to identify solutions.
• Works independently, with guidance in complex situations.
