About the team
SprayLine Road Services is an internal delivery team within the Department of Transport and Planning providing road maintenance services, construction and associated civil works, bituminous spray sealing and line marking to DTP, other state road authorities, municipal councils, and private industry. SprayLine Road Services delivers services locally within the communities and are committed to ensuring quality, innovative and sustainable outcomes.
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Works Supervisor to lead and motivate our road maintenance team at Swan Hill. You will work with the Team Leader to develop internal works delivery strategy, establish required contracts, finance monitoring and associated business changes to meet the delivery needs.
Highly developed leadership and communication skills is a must for the right candidate.
The standard hours for this position are 7.30am to 4.00pm. The Works Supervisor must be prepared at times to work overtime outside these hours, work away from home for periods of time and also attend after hours call outs.
Key Outcomes
As a key team member of the DTP Road Services team the incumbent will be responsible for (but not limited to) the following duties:
- Coordinate and supervise DTP Road Services road workers, agency staff and contractors involved in the delivery of Road, Roadside, Bridge Maintenance, Construction and Emergency works.
- Ensure that the quality and execution of works are completed as specified, within budget and in a safe, timely, efficient, and compliant manner.
- Assist in the coordination of a timely and effective response to emergencies during and outside normal working hours.
- Effectively supervise, train, develop and motivate operational personnel.
- Lead by example and impart knowledge and skills in the training and development of staff to maintain a skilled workforce for succession planning.
- Identify and / or implement changes to existing work practices that result in business improvements within the operational area.
- Exercise professional judgement in the application of policies and procedures.
- Perform duties under broad supervision.
- Exercise independent judgement in work scheduling matters to achieve required outcomes.
- Use negotiation and influencing skills to reach successful outcomes.
- Implement changes to existing work practices that result in business improvements for the work area.
- Provide supervision and training of less experienced employees.
Mandatory
- Current licences and tickets in plant operation; traffic management, chainsaw and first aid, construction induction card.
- +5 years' experience working in road maintenance, construction, or work crew supervisory role
- Working knowledge of computer tablets / mobile devices.
- Solid administrative and computer skills.
- Certificate III in Civil Construction
- Understanding of Asset Maintenance Management Systems
- Strong knowledge of the Road Management Plan
- Strong understanding of Maintenance Specification Section 750
- Ordinary Hours of Work – This position may require shift work to be undertaken which will include as part of a regular pattern or roster cycle Saturday, Sunday, Public Holiday, and/or afternoon/night shifts.
- After hours Emergency response availability and overtime are requirements of this role and opportunities may be available to travel within the state to assist with the states broader Emergency response.
- Whilst this role is based in your home location, you may be occasionally required to work from other locations across the state of Victoria based on the operational needs of the broader SprayLine Road Services business.
