 The Opportunity

Accordwest is seeking Youth Workers (Residential) to join our dedicated, supportive, passionate team working with young people in our support homes to provide therapeutic care, encourage social and emotional wellbeing and create connections.

Do you have a sense of justice, self-control, courage and can think on your feet? Our young people can come with challenging behaviours from difficult lived experience and are seeking a role model to build trust and meaningful relationships and support in skill development and attitudes rather than remedy problem behaviours.

Our residential care services provide safe, secure, and supportive home environment for children and young people who cannot reside with their families. Our Youth Workers provide active support by leading with positive examples, optimistic resolutions and assisting them in their day-to-day life and goals.

No 2 days are the same in this role. If you find mentoring rewarding, are up for a challenge and ready to help our Young People take on the world one step at a time through relationships, connection and discovery. We would like to hear from you!

The Role

  • Provides 24-hour support, care and supervision for children up to 15 years old. Availability over 7 days is required, including sleep overs. 
  • You’ll play a massive role in the lives of these young people, including care over night and on weekends
  • Forms and maintains professional, nurturing relationships with the children and young people by building trust through active engagement.
  • Manages challenging situations with a positive attitude 
  • Actively assess the needs of the young person and inform active and targeted intervention.
  • Recognises and responds to impact of trauma on young people.
  • Facilitates educational and recreational activities
  • Completes Department and organisation reporting
  • Maintains daily house hold duties
  • Implements and ensures safety and health measures

As a result, we seek to employ people who possess the following skills and experience:

  • Certificate IV in a related field or higher and/or experience in a similar role.
  • Previous experience in working with people with complex issues or challenging behaviours.
  • A strong mentor with a high level of resilience 
  • Ability to manage challenging situations with a positive outlook
  • Ability to form and maintain professional, nurturing relationships with young people by building trust through active engagement.
  • Ability to ensure that care plans are activity incorporated into daily activities
  • Provide input into Department reporting requirements

How we support you

Accordwest offers a fully paid comprehensive induction and training program. This is designed to provide our inductee Youth Workers with a solid understanding and expectations of your role. The training will ensure that you are equipped with the skills, knowledge and experience required to succeed.

Due to the trauma sensitive work of our Youth Workers, we require our inductee Youth Workers to successfully complete the Induction Program before they can commence employment. The training is essential to our staff and therefore attendance is compulsory.

Other mandatory conditions (or ability to apply) to be eligible for this position:

  • A valid current Western Australian Driver’s Licence
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Working with Children Check
  • National Police Clearance
  • Form 395 Clearance from Department of Communities
