Job description

Nature Advisory, an employee-owned company, is one of Australia's leading ecological consultancies advising corporate, government and private clients on ecosystem monitoring and management, development impact assessment, regulatory compliance and bushfire risk. We experience consistent growth in demand for our services and steadily add to our diverse team of long-serving professionals. The company is based in Melbourne's inner east and works on projects throughout Australia. We pride ourselves on our supportive and respectful culture and are an equal opportunity employer.

We currently have vacancies in our team for Casual Zoologists. Whether you are a recent graduate or a senior professional with extensive consulting experience, we would like to hear from you.

The work will involve data collection on habitats and fauna populations, implementation of targeted fauna surveys at development sites, data collation and analysis, impact assessment and report writing. Ornithological skills will be considered favourably. Elements of field survey work will also involve deployment of our professionally trained scent detection canines, through training and support of our established team of trainers and handlers. Prior handling experience is not required, but would be viewed favourably, and on the job training will be provided.

The position provides an excellent opportunity to join a diverse, experienced and supportive team of environmental professionals committed to a high standard of technical work and client service that make a difference for the environment. As a growing business, we can provide excellent training and career advancement opportunities as well as competitive remuneration. Longer-serving staff members have the opportunity to become shareholders in an employee-owned business.

Candidates must have graduate qualifications in ecology or a related field, with a specialisation in ecology/zoology. Strong field skills and fauna identification experience is essential. A track record in consulting to industry and knowledge of biodiversity legislation and policies would be well regarded, but this is not essential as training in these areas can be provided.

The selected candidate will have:

  • Knowledge of bird identification with demonstrated experience in general fauna surveys.
  • Graduate qualifications in ecology with a specialisation in zoology.
  • A current driver's license.
  • 4WD competency will be favourably regarded.
