Want to nurture better, healthier outcomes for our community and your career? Belong, grow, and achieve your way with the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network.

About the Role:

As the Echo Fellow Registrar, you will work under supervision and be responsible for managing and coordinating the provision of inpatient care, quality assurance, teaching and research in the Intensive and Critical Care Department at the Flinders Medical Centre and in southern metropolitan Adelaide.

Flinders Medical Centre is a 580 bed public hospital, which is an international leader in integrated patient care, teaching, research and health promotion. Situated 13km south of the Adelaide City Centre, it is on the same campus as the Flinders University of South Australia. Flinders Medical Centre has close working relationships with the Noarlunga Health Services and the Flinders Private Hospital.

The services provided by the Department of Critical Care Medicine include:

  • Acute in-patient care - 32 bed Critical Care Unit
  • Medical Emergency Team (MET) – response & training
  • Total Parenteral Nutrition - both within FMC and “at home”
  • Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation
  • Plasmapheresis

Supporting these patient services is a comprehensive research and education program. Both the patient and support services within the Department are managed utilising a multi-disciplinary approach.

As an Echo Fellow you will take part in image acquisition (transthoracic and transoesophageal), study reporting/archiving, conducting echocardiography related education including case review and “hands-on” bedside teaching and participate in echocardiography–related research, under supervision of a number of echocardiography trained Consultants. If interested, the successful applicant can enrol for DDU Critical Care (or other qualifications) and the consultants are able to provide DDU supervision.

This role will consist of two parts: echocardiography related duties within the ICCU approximately 80-85% of time and cover of the Senior Registrar / Registrar roster position approximately 20-15% of time.

Although the contract duration is default three years, shorter duration contracts can be negotiated.

As per the SMOEA 2022, the total term of employment with SA Health will be 3 years. Rotations following the initial 12 month allocation as ICCU Echo Fellow will be determined in line with your training and SA Health’s requirements. This may include transfer to other SA Health locations to perform work appropriate to classification, skills and capabilities.
