The community of Greenvale has long-awaited its own a secondary school and is eager for it to be a success story: the secondary school of choice for local families and a school of which all in the community can be proud. The future of education for Greenvale is now here and students will be prepared for, and encouraged to dream, believe, and achieve.

Our school opened in 2022 and is growing steadily, living up to this ambition. In 2025, the College has Year 7 - 10 student cohorts. We will add a year level every year following. In 2025, the College adds the Year 10 cohort and commences our program planning for senior secondary options to ensure all students have excellent opportunities and outcomes after their schooling.

At Greenvale Secondary College, we focus on supporting individual students wherever they are at in their learning and social development, to ensure our students can feel successful and challenged to be their best. We offer extension and enrichment, as well as interventions and dedicated support for students who need it.

We have created a learning environment that is built on high expectations for all, where all students can belong and feel connected to their education and community.

The College has a current student capacity of approximately 1100 students, however we will grow into the capacity steadily as we add each Year Level cohort.

Selection Criteria

SC1      Demonstrated expert knowledge of the relevant curriculum. Demonstrated ability to lead and manage the implementation of school priorities, and the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills across the curriculum.

SC2      Demonstrated ability to lead the planning and implementation of high impact teaching strategies that respond to student learning needs. Demonstrated ability to support teachers to evaluate the impact of learning and teaching programs on student learning growth.

SC3      Demonstrated exemplary ability to monitor and assess student learning at a class, cohort or whole-school level and use this data to lead improvement initiatives. Demonstrated ability to support others in using data to inform teaching practice and to provide feedback on student learning growth and achievement to students and parents.

SC4      Demonstrated exemplary interpersonal and leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to lead collaborative relationships with students, colleagues, parents and the broader school community focused on student learning, agency, wellbeing and engagement.

SC5      Demonstrated ability to model behaviours and attitudes consistent with Department values and support colleagues to adopt these behaviours and attitudes. Demonstrated ability to reflect upon their own, others and whole-school practice and contribute to the provision of whole-school professional learning.

SC6      Demonstrated capacity to contribute to the successful establishment of a new secondary school including a proven capacity for effective curriculum development and leadership of whole school developmental curriculum framework.

Role

Leading teachers will be highly skilled classroom practitioners and undertake leadership and management roles commensurate with their salary range.  The role of Leading Teachers is to improve the skill, knowledge and performance of the teaching workforce in a school or group of schools and to improve the curriculum program of a school.

Typically, Leading Teachers are responsible for coordinating a number of staff to achieve improvements in teaching and learning which may involve the coordination and professional support of colleagues through modelling, collaborating and coaching and using processes that develop knowledge, practice and professional engagement in others.

Leading teachers are expected to lead and manage a significant area or function within the school with a high degree of independence to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program.

Leading teachers will be expected to make a significant contribution to policy development relating to teaching and learning in the school. A Leading Teacher has a direct impact and influence on the achievement of the school goals.

Leading teachers are usually responsible for the implementation of one or more priorities contained in the school strategic plan.

Responsibilities
  • Provides leadership in the use of data and feedback to inform learning and teaching.
  • Implement the instructional model across the college
  • Implement the continuum of practice. 
  • Enhance innovation in teaching and learning in evidence-based high yield practices. 
  • Alignment of DET HITS to College Framework. 
  • To support, provide training and advise to staff to develop confidence and competence in the use of the Instructional Model and development and effective feedback models.
  • To support and model best practice teaching and learning.
  • To assist other Heads of Learning to develop monitor and evaluate effective teaching. 
  • To develop training materials as necessary. 
  • Provide support and direction to staff and make recommendations to the Principal in the annual Performance & Development process. 
  • Drive pedagogical practice to support the quality of teaching and learning for all students. 
  • Work with the school improvement team to successfully implement school wide strategies relating to improving teacher effectiveness and leadership of learning. 
  • Support teachers and instructional coaches to improve teaching practices. 
  • Implement revised school wide peer observation and learning walks program.
  • Model best practice teaching. 
  • Collect and interpret data that demonstrates improvement in teaching in relation to student outcomes.
  • The Increase visible learning practices across the college 

Team Development

  • To collaborate with other Heads of Learning to meet the pedagogical and learning needs of the school community.  
  • The In conjunction with other heads of Learning building capacity of teachers in every classroom.  
Who May Apply

Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.

  • This Leading Teacher role is tenured for 3 years and will be reviewed accordingly in alignment with the school strategic plan.
  • Shortlisted applicants will be asked to complete a Facet 5 Personality Profile Survey for use by the Selection Panel.
  • In 2025 the College has Year 7 to 10 Cohorts. We will add a year level every year following. 
  • In Until 2026 the teachers will have a higher than normal curriculum development role. this curriculum is developed in detail is shared and is collaborative in nature.   
  • As a college we prioritise developing the skills of our staff and students with observation measurement goal setting and improvement for all. We run a targeted coaching program and offer leadership development pipeline for staff aspiring to school leadership and positions of responsibility.

VIT LANTITE

To be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in the principal or teacher class a person must have provisional or full registration from the Victorian Institute of Teaching. In addition, from 3 August 2020, to be eligible for employment in the principal class or teacher class, a person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education program after 1 July 2016, must demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements. This condition is satisfied where the LANTITE requirement is part of the Victorian Initial Teacher Education program completed by the person.
