The Role:

An opportunity exists for a Haematology trainee to join the team at Northern Health. This role will work alongside our accredited clinical haematology registrars and laboratory haematology registrar. Northern Health provides a general haematology service that sees haematological conditions ranging from thrombosis and haemostasis to acute leukaemias. Our thrombosis service sees over 400 new thrombosis patients a year and leads a dedicated anticoagulation stewardship program.

This role will be heavily involved in setting up a virtual thrombosis service for the Hume region. Our malignant service sees a wide range of malignant conditions including acute leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma, and is supported by a clinical trials department. We also have a well-established obstetrics haematology service with approximately 3500 births per year in our institution. We provide a comprehensive laboratory haematology service, which includes special coagulation, flow cytometry, transfusion medicine and haemoglobin electrophoresis. Research is also an integral part of the Haematology Unit at Northern Health.

Our investigator-led haematology research focuses on thrombotic disorders with a dedicated thrombosis research laboratory at the Northern Research Precinct and led by NECTAR (NorthErn Clinical diagnostics and ThrombovAscular Research) Centre, supported by a number of PhD students and offer numerous opportunities for registrar as well as higher research degree projects.

To be successful in this role you will have:

Essential Qualifications

  • A medical qualification (MBBS or equivalent) which is recognised for registration by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

Desirable

  • Experience in clinical haematology and research
  • Trainee of relevant Medical College
  • FRACP (or equivalent) to be passed/completed

Experience

  • Has the appropriate level of relevant clinical experience for the role
  • Must have a proven track record of commitment to continued improvement, research development and team work
