About the Role

We are currently seeking an Abattoir Manager to join our Diamond Valley Pork (DVP) team in a permanent full-time capacity. Based onsite at our processing facility in Laverton and reporting to the site Plant Manager, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Abattoir to achieve targeted volumes, productivity levels and quality of the highest standard.

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the Abattoir including Offal Rooms, Chillers and Lairage.
  • Provide sound technical advice and direction to employees.
  • Undertake toolbox meetings (at least quarterly) and send minutes to Human Resources.
  • Liaise closely with the Maintenance Supervisor to ensure plant and equipment faults are addressed to minimise production downtime.
  • Liaise closely with all other relevant internal functions (Administration, QA and Sales) to ensure production requirements are met.
  • Manage annual leave accruals.
  • Maintain daily control checks to ensure specifications are met, and product hygiene and quality is of the highest standard.
  • Assist in site personnel matters including site recruitment, performance reviews, skills analysis, provision for training, disciplinary action and termination; liaise with Human Resources (as required).
  • Undertake data entry into timesheet spreadsheets.
  • Undertake workplace training with regards to communicating work instructions and site inductions.
  • Manage the washing of Ironware.
  • Plan labour / production to achieve the lowest cost and highest efficiency.
  • Manage pet food, P2 equipment and blood collection.
  • Arrange the efficient transfer and placement of carcasses to chillers.
  • Ensure animal welfare procedures and guidelines are followed at all times.
  • Ensure annual objectives are regularly reviewed and met.
  • Contribute to key business activities as required.
  • Adhere to all Company policies, procedures, processes and work instructions at all times, and ensure appropriate actions are taken to implement and monitor at a site level.         
  • Perform other duties as directed.         

About You

  • Certificate III in Meat Processing.
  • Thorough understanding of meat production processes.
  • Extensive practical knowledge of various procedures relating to Abattoir production.
  • Sound understanding of employment, WHS, QA, and Company policies and procedures.
  • High level communication skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage change within broadly defined parameters.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
